PS4 FFXIV Lag 'fix' [not for everyone]...

For the last several months or so I have been playing FFXIV on my PS4 and the one constant I've had is lagging. Sometimes it's quite severe (up to 20-30 seconds of no movement or activity). I never had these problems while playing on the PC but I had made my switch to PS4 after an update. Initially I was wanting to put the blame on SE but I found a rather un-intuitive fix that points the finger directly at Sony for the PS4 lag.

As an aside, this 'fix' is only for those that are sure they have the bandwidth to manage it and that their own internet connection is not to blame for their lag. For example.. my internet connection speed is supposed to be about 25-30Mbps download and about 10 up but my PSN connection test usually shows about 7Mbps down and .5 up.

The big secret IS..... broadcast your gameplay using Twitch or UStream(I have only tried this with Twitch). Weird, right? The only thing I can think of is that Sony dedicates more PSN bandwidth to streaming users. As such this ALMOST completely negates any lag I experience. I still get a very occasional hiccup for a half second or so that may be related to PSN, ISP, or SE connections but it's nowhere NEAR as bad as the normal amount of lag experienced.

This MAY be something that ONLY works for me but I thought I'd put the word out there in case it can help anyone else.

    Good luck!

Are you using wireless or wired on your PS4? I switched from PC to PS4 and have much less lag on PS4. Weights on Titan EX were a pain on my PC and I had to move ahead of time. PS4 I can wait til they pop up, stand in it for half a second and still get out with time to spare.

You do know your bandwidth has nothing to with sony right? Twitch streaming is easily going to eat most if not all of your .5 upload.

Wireless unfortunately. Wired isn't an option from the placement of rooms/furniture.

Sony can limit the amount of bandwidth used by it's users just as I can create a website limiting download speads to 128kbps or the same with upload speeds depending on the server connections. Maybe you should research a little more on how web inter-connectivity works :P. Capping download speed limits on connections is quite frequent in the technology world, especially on pay for premium services like Rapidshare where premium members get access to faster download speeds. While it doesn't impact your true internet speed to other services it limits downloads/uploads to their specific servers.

Maybe you should do your research. Sony can't limit something that doesn't even go through their servers.

You act like it's completely impossible to do. I can think of a dozen ways this could easily be accomplished. Limiting passthrough on a device [PS4] will limit all connections with that specific device but not on a network. Device passthrough or even application specific passthroughs can be limited easily by the application or device owner or remote commands/algorythms.

Regardless.. Streaming = no lag.. Not streaming = constant lag for my system. Explain it however you'd like.

My guild always complains the FFXIV forums are a cesspool of negativity. I see they're correct.

Is it just that the PS4 is using more bandwith with the other application running so it free's up some for the game to use also?

And yet if Sony limited your bandwidth at the console, which is different from your steam example, they would be in very hot water. You should know this.

Also you should learn what negativity really is before making that claim on the last line.

Sounds like a QoS type issue with your router. Your router seems to be throttling your PS4 until it "sees" it running a program that is known to require more bandwidth to run properly. It shouldn't be a hard fix, but it may require some research.

Because they disagreed with you? You know there is a chance you might be wrong?
