Basically with patch 2.3 all melle classes received reduced cooldowns on their, literal, pvp skills. Warrior/marauder did too, but holmgang was overlooked it seems. As it stands, this is one of our most essential skills for pvp (while not actually being a pvp skill), but the cooldown for it is just far too long.
In comparison with other melee classes there is no means of avoiding binds/slows etc... fetter ward/hallowed ground. No gap closers, no escape moves. As such holmgang becomes massively important to secure our targets in place, once we get in (even more so in frontlines due to stun diminishing returns.. someone could easily have put your target in stun immunity, making holmgang that much more important, as your stuns are useless on a stun immune target) But then of course, theres purify which can see our holmgang wasted( and not only holmgang... 1/3 of berserk and then you are left in place useless for a good few seconds). And due to the chaotic nature of frontlines, it's pretty much impossible to regularly keep tabs on enemies to know whether their purify is on cooldown. In the wolves den, this was something you'd watch out for... but thats kinda hard when your in a mob of 30 players with multiple healers. As such, holmgang is often times a huge gamble... if they purify you are left there useless.. wasting both your berserk/attack buff cooldowns and holmgang. The risk factor is needlessly high.
With the meta game changing significantly due to the mass numbers, it's very easy to get trained/peeled by a ranged character, who can also sprint for free.. holmgang really helps to alleviate the situation, but with a 2 mins and 40 second cooldown.. it's just down far, far too often to be a viable counter. And when you consider the punishment scenariors that can arise from using the move, it's not so much a counter, as it is a massive gamle that will ruin you half the time.
I'm not asking to have it so that we can bind any target at any given time, that would be OP. But reduce the cooldown so it's something we can actually use more liberally and not once in a blue moon.
There is the problem with the invincibility buff however, as having constant access to that could be imbalanced. Some sort of means would need to be taken to address that.
As it stands, nearly 3 mins for holmgang is far, far too long in frontlines. Considering that it's on 3 mins cooldown, and a single purify sees you lose both your 3 min cooldown, and 1/3 of your bersek time... it's needlessly high risk.
It makes sense in pvp... but not in frontlines.
Please significantly reduce the absurdly long cooldown time. Also, looking to remove the bind on YOU once the move is purify'd would make a lot of sense. I don't see any reason why we need to sit in place for a whole 6 seconds.... again, a needlessly harsh punishment.
