Are you a GSM by chance? I happen to be desynthing as a GSM. I've found that the horn armillae were decent for Battlecraft, but haven't found a real cost-effective item for the Fieldcraft I materia. Any suggestions?

Buy crafting/gathering rings from the NPC brass/silver. The silver ones will give you back silver ingots you can resell for most or all of your costs back. Any fieldcraft materia should be sold until you have enough gil to keep leveling your desynth skill. I sold about 2mil in demi materia I/II. Once you are beyond leveling off of silver you will need to make/break items. I just looked for items that took 1 material that was cheap and did those until they gave no more skill. Also, equip cheap crafting jewellery so you can be making materia while making/breaking for desynth skill.

Personally, I won't do that.

You will need 10 fieldcraft materia to make those new Dodore jewelry, which goes for 200-500K on my server. Plus you will need 35 of both fieldcraft and battlecraft for your 7 Master II books.
