Yup. Technically DPS classes have 'less' responsibility, but it doesn't mean they don't have any - most players assume that's the case however, which is why so many people wipe to an otherwise extremely simple part of the level 20 boss battle when they first get there. DPS generally have it 'easier', but they learn in time they can't simply be braindead.

If you did want to tank, I'd suggest a Gladiator (-> Paladin) over Marauder (-> Warrior); the play patterns are easier to learn, it's less positioning reliant, etc., without being any less effective (arguably it's more effective although it's really just two different set of advantages). It's not actually hard to learn to Tank - you more just need to learn basic lessons (where to tank, what the aggro indicators are and how to manage them, etc.). And to be fair, even healers and DPS can really benefit from learning the 'core lessons' of each class anyway so they can deal with them.

The easiest class to play/learn, I'd say, is Archer (-> Bard). You have the reduced responsibility of a DPS, but also very simple patterns to learn, lots of freedom of movement (you never have to stop casting to dodge/run out of attack range/etc.), and can get a good view of a battlefield as you play to get an idea of what's going on with other classes and learn not to tunnel vision, etc.
