    Picking a class

I was thinking between a tank or a healer because of the cool animation and I played similar classes in TOR. but after watching some dungeons and fate videos both seem like a demanding class and I'm not sure if it would be fun. So ultimately Whats a good noob friendly class or a class that will help me learn the game mechanics and is still fun?

The beauty of FFXIV is that you can be any and all classes one one character. I'd suggest just picking one you like the look of and giving it a go. As a beginner myself, it looks as if you ultimately end up leveling all classes anyway for the cross class abilities.

A dps will invariably have less responsibility than a tank or healer, it if you want to do one of those roles then you should. One thing to note (as a TOR player myself ) is that early tanking is much harder in this than TOR.

There is a lot of pressure placed on the tanks and healers. Once you are used to the mechanics, you will notice some fights place more emphasis on one or the other.

Also, you will notice the classes were designed starting from lv.50 and then the developers spread out the abilities to the lower levels. This means that the class feels complete at Lv.50, without any wasted skills, but you will sometimes feel lacking in the early levels.

I would recommend you pursue leveling the tank or healer of your choice, and ignoring the criticism. You are on a friendly server and have players willing to help you.

If you are considering a dps class, Arcanist can be leveled and grant you simultaneous access to Summoner (dps) and Scholar (healer). There is a fair amount of pet management involved in it, so it may not fit your playstyle. Most players like Bard, and their use of buffs to support the party is useful. Between monk and dragoon, monk tends to have the easier combo. Playing either of the melee dps will introduce you to dodging and give you a front row seat to learning tank movement in the game.

I hope this advice helps you and I'll see you in the game hopefully. If you need any advice, help, or equipment, feel free to ask.

Honestly, tank and healer are both SUPER easy to play. The only pressure is that you're by yourself and failure on your part often means a wipe instead of things just taking longer to kill... though, once you get up there, DPS need to be on par to avoid wipes as well, so this thought is merely an illusion, all jobs have pressure on them!

Yup. Technically DPS classes have 'less' responsibility, but it doesn't mean they don't have any - most players assume that's the case however, which is why so many people wipe to an otherwise extremely simple part of the level 20 boss battle when they first get there. DPS generally have it 'easier', but they learn in time they can't simply be braindead.

If you did want to tank, I'd suggest a Gladiator (-> Paladin) over Marauder (-> Warrior); the play patterns are easier to learn, it's less positioning reliant, etc., without being any less effective (arguably it's more effective although it's really just two different set of advantages). It's not actually hard to learn to Tank - you more just need to learn basic lessons (where to tank, what the aggro indicators are and how to manage them, etc.). And to be fair, even healers and DPS can really benefit from learning the 'core lessons' of each class anyway so they can deal with them.

The easiest class to play/learn, I'd say, is Archer (-> Bard). You have the reduced responsibility of a DPS, but also very simple patterns to learn, lots of freedom of movement (you never have to stop casting to dodge/run out of attack range/etc.), and can get a good view of a battlefield as you play to get an idea of what's going on with other classes and learn not to tunnel vision, etc.
