Please improve leashing behavior in the open world

If multiple players are fighting a single enemy, and the person who has the highest enmity runs too far away so that the monster runs too far away from his spawn location, the enemy currently becomes invulnerable, runs back to his initial location and resets his health.

Some players are currently using this to steal Hunt Marks from others who are in the middle of fighting a monster.

It would be preferable if the monster just removed the out of range target from his enmity list and attacked the next highest target without becoming invulnerable and restoring health. This would prevent abuse entirely. It would also prevent a single tank mistake from erasing the damage contributions from everybody who is attacking the monster (more likely in Rank A or S fights).

Alternatively make Hunt Marks immune to provoke similar to how FATE enemies are immune to provoke. This would make it much harder to steal a target that's already engaged, but it would still mean that a tank that accidentally pulls a target too far away still erases everyone's contributions whether or not they are even in the same party.

Yes I totally agree, and I think it has always been bizarre how any enemy can become completely invulnerable and reset it's health, that just bothered me from a lore perspective.

Your suggestion is perfect... the person with highest enmity, when running from the target area, should be ignored and the enemy switch to the next highest enmity player... instead of following that first guy out of the area and doing the invulnerable recovery thing.

Yes, I also agree this would be a significant improvement. The other thing is that it counts the person that leashed the monster as the person who tagged it, which makes it even more viable for abuse.

I believe hunt marks are already immune to provoke though, I may be wrong but they can't be initially pulled with it. At the same time, if whoever tagged it first isn't a tank in their tank stance, a tank with their tank stance up can pretty quickly pull threat if it has a decent amount of hp left.

I've never been a fan of the way leashing works in this game. It makes no sense why a mob should suddenly become invulnerable and regain all it's health just because it strayed too far from it's spawn point.
