Pls make gear mean something for tanks

I am wondering whether the popularity of tank can be helped by making it a more leet job which can be achieved by making leet gear allow a tank to make a difference

I still remember in FFXI when I come across a relic pally I was like "man, knight in shining armor and can solo or duo many NMs" whereas in 14, tanks are like 'meh' just a meatshield who just need to know the mechanics.

LS always gear their pally with relic first followed then by bard.

So many SE should consider to tone down fight mechanics for tanks (can still keep it for DD and healer) and make a tank's skill more dependent on gear.

The overarching design of end game in FFXIV is focused on learning fight mechanics, and less on gear. There really aren't many interesting choices for gear across all classes, and that's how the game is designed. Compare that to say an Action RPG such as Diablo II. DII has super interesting gear, but the gameplay itself is trivial as you're typically just rightclicking the entire time.

Compared to other classes, gear is actually more interesting on tanks since in some fights, the tank(s) are able to use DPS accesories to improve their damage. Also, tanks also have a choice of putting points in Strength OR Vitality. Other classes don't have that flexibility at all.

In my opinion, tank is the easiest role in the end game when it comes to mechanics. Tanks typically have to deal with the least mechanics due to the fact that they have to focus on keeping aggro as well as not dying.

    Agree Stoxastic.

Just a bit sad that the leetness of a tank is no longer in FFXIV

are you sure you want to see a class/role that can solo content like that? in an MMO, it's far better if the players need eachother.

    I don't even.
Skill should always be a bigger test of a players abilities than gear. Always.
Asking to "tone down tank mechanics" is ludicrous. Having gear does not equal skill. It just equals luck on RNG for drops/who grinded tomestones the most. That is not skill.
Executing mechanics, utilising cooldowns properly, that is skill.
You clearly do not know what tanking is about.

Uh. Gear makes a huge difference. I'd like to see you go into Halatali or Brayflox HM at i55 (the minimum for these dungeons) and pull everything the way you can at i90+. I'm guessing the tank wouldn't even make it to the end of the pull before they dropped. T1 is another great example; if one of your tanks is in craptastic gear (like the ones that use healing accessories to make item level) you are pretty much screwed, but geared tanks don't start taking dangerous amounts of damage from the boss until he's at 3-4 stacks. Does being geared mean you can just facetank everything? Absolutely not, and it's 100% better that way. It does make a difference, though.

If it makes you feel better, I easily handle any alexandrite map with just my chocobo and on most fights I rarely drop below 90% hp (some my hp bar doesn't even really move a noticeable amount). Other jobs tend to have much more difficulty unless they're in a group.

Rank B NMs are cake with just a chocobo, and even some As might be doable.

Yep, same here. I think the only thing that would make the A's hard is the fairly nasty debuffs that they use.

Other than that, it's a battle of attrition and between a choco and my FoF/BB macro I have plenty of healing.
