maybe you didn't read all the updates, part 2 is coming next week and will allow join in progress to fill in the gaps. Until that time they asked party leaders to add people manually.

Also your other concerns will happen anyways, happened in WoW battlegrounds too, took a long time but Bliz finally added a if you afk or don't participate for a set time you will be kicked from the field and get no credit. So we can only hope the new system keeps evolving to combat this.
