Here's some information and useful tips, specifically for GSM (OP didn't mention what class they were desynthing on).

    I'm GSM 78 Desnyth.

The best items to synth from 0 are the WVR Primary tools. The initial levels you can just buy the tools, when you get to Dlvl ~20-40 you can just go out and farm the Sandworm Fang and Wolf Fangs at Dlvl ~40-50 to make their respective WVR needles. The reason I chose these is that they take the least mats to make. 1 Fang and 1 Stone and shards for both of them.

From 50 -78 by far and away your best option is Aetheryte Rings. Forget any of the Militia stuff, basically look for the least amount of mats for your craft. Aetheryte Rings only cost 1 Rose Gold Nugget and 1 Water Cluster to make and the only potential mat you can get back is the nugget. This is pretty win.

Doing the Aetheryte Ring, when successful I'd get the Rose Gold Nugget right back and could use that nugget to make another ring, to get the nugget back to make another ring, until something gave and the desynth failed or I got some demimateria (always Clear II or Field II in amounts of either 1 or 2.) If you're lucky this way you can get stuck in a nice loop, with it constantly giving you back a nugget to make a new ring with the only cost you pay in water clusters, which are really easy to get in bulk if you have some gathering.

This will get you to 78 where they stop giving Desynth XP. To get from 78 - 100 knowing i55s no longer get me any desynth experience, I'm going to have to get there on i70s/2 Stars up to say around level 90 Desynth and then i90s/3 Stars to get to 100.

From what I have seen after doing thousands of desnyths, ilvl50-55 gets you 1 or 2 Battle/Field II or Clear II. ilvl70/2 Star will get you 1 or 2 Battle/Field III or Clear III and the Master Demimateria comes from ilvl90/3 Star. I have not shown this to be true myself (as far as the Mastercraft materia is concerned), but I do know that I have gotten IIs from all ilvl50-55 and IIIs from 70s (and no Masters), so it would stand to reason that the next step up would be Master at i90.

Basically, shit just got serious with the new end-game tools. If we're having to break down i90 stuff to get those Mastercraft Demis it's going to take a long time or a lot of gil (as it can all be bought obviously), not to mention the fact that Demi IIIs are hard enough as it is, seeing as the only source of i70 tools/gear for Fieldcraft is the artisan stuff you get from Talan.

I do suspect you can also get Field IIIs from 2 star furnishings, but again, I haven't personally verified this and that's just from reading other people's results.

Whilst people will definitely QQ about these seemingly harsh requirements to get the end-game tools I welcome the fact it's hard. There's too much of a culture of people getting things done immediately and then complaining about not having anything to do. This really makes sure that doesn't happen. I hope people don't bleat about this too much and make SE change the fact it's hard to get this stuff.

For me to go from 1-78 Desynth in a day is a bit too easy IMO and the same thing took days/weeks in XI, but I suppose that's the kind of MMO world we live in now.

Oh and don't forget, attaching materia to something you are going to desynth (where possible) increases the desynth chance by 5% per piece of materia regardless of type or tier of materia. Personally I don't bother but on the meldable i70s/i90s I can see this being a distinct advantage, so SE did add some things to assist us with this hard slog to end-game tools.

Lastly, if you need easy Battlecraft Demis look to the MNK mainhand for GSM specifically. Least mats to make of all the GSM battle gear.

That's basically everything I know about Desynthing and its relevant demimateria. On my server there has been no Mastercraft Demi placed on sale yet.

    Peace out.
