I finally got around to removing and re-installing the game and made it a full 15-20 minutes standing around in crowded Limsa Nominsa before it crashed... Got my hopes up for a bit and then - crash.
I hope Square Enix figures out what the problem is, but based on our help desk experiences it seems unlikely that they will even admit something is wrong with their code.
Windows tells me that there is an unhandled exception and memory is being written to invalid locations (when I click on debug after the error). As a programmer, I know that exceptions are not usually that hard to catch.

the exception is an OOM event, caused by the display driver failing to release allocated texture memory during scene traversal.

Reinstalled windows 8.1 after the new Nividia drivers came out and still crashing in FFXIV...

Such a shame. I'm pretty much ready to just put FF on the shelf. As of now the game is unplayable.

Apparently playing the game in Standard Desktop settings now fixes the problem after the reinstall. However, switching to Max settings or high still crashes me. I am on the GTX 770 with the most updated drivers. Anyone know why this is?

EDIT: Actually it still crashes, just less frequently this way..

Oh, I know this one! That error generally means your HDD has corrupt files, could be from malware or something else. Maybe try wiping some stuff, or a system repair??

Hopefully someone can answer mine too :L

Im having the same problem. Seems to be working better if i set the graphics to laptop and the lowest... But still crashes sometimes just less frequently .

I have 2x SLI GTX 670 so i should be able to run max setting without any problems. But every time i run the game. It crashes to desktop within 3min of logging in.

Its been like this for a week now and i fear i wont resubb since i cant really play the game .

Is there anyway to sort that error atleast or know anything else its related to? my hard drive should be good as its only a few months old. I have scanned and boot time scanned my computer so it should be pretty damn clean.

Square Enix often seems to recommend uninstalling FF14 ARR, removing all remaining files related to the game (including any config files), and then re-installing the game (which you can download from finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na - or replace the na if you're not based out of North America).

It looks like I had the same error you're getting and this method ended up working for me. It did crash during the first few tries I ran it after the re-install, but since then it has been running fine with no other problems. You will have to customize your settings and set up your hot bars all over again but of course your character progress won't be lost since that is stored on the Square Enix servers. If that doesn't work, it's probably still worth submitting a ticket to Square Enix.

Since this problem seems to be related to corrupted / invalid memory writing or allocation, my best guess is that something may have been happening in the patching process that was causing some FF14 files to become corrupted.
