Returning Player - Can't create Character :(

So I decided to return to the game after months of GW2 and League of legends. I never really played the game that much but I decided to go ahead and sub. My character was 8, and a thaumaturge. I wanted to play a different class, but I wanted to stay on the same server so I had to delete my old character. Ok, no big deal. I went through the process of deleting my mage and creating a new character. Well, upon giving him an outstanding name... I can't create characters on this server!!! WTF!!! You couldn't give me that heads up when I WAS DELETING A CHARACTER!?!?

Needless to say I have no desire to play on any other server because my friends all play on this one. Is there any way to get a character on there, or can I get a refund for the subscription? It is a little disconcerting that their servers are full and I only know a few people that play compared to the other MMO's that run fine that dozens of my friends play.

It was probably a case of that server currently was restricted simply due to having too many people logged into it at once. This can change at any time and pretty much comes down to luck of the draw sadly. SE does post regular updates on the Lodestone about the current state of servers (every six hours in fact), but again, that can change literally at a moment's notice, so that info could be out of date as soon as it's posted. But it's still a useful reference to go on to judge how congested the servers currently are.

All I can suggest is keep trying (you can save your character's appearance so you don't have to go manually through creation again and just skip straight to naming and server), and eventually you should get the server you want.

Incidentally, you could have ironically kept your original character and just levelled it two more levels, and after doing your class quests at the Thaumaturge Guild you would have been able to unlock the Armoury System which allows you to switch to any class at will by equipping it's weapon or tool. But ah well, that's something you now know for the future.

Thank you for the response, but this game has been out for how long? This is ridiculous. I can see in the first week or so of release, but we are so far from that.

There was a huge patch a few days ago, so more people than usual are playing.

Its unfortunate. I'm at work right now trying to go through the creation process remotely so I can play when I get home... What pisses me off the most is that I'm paying for this time right now and its impossible to play at all. Not to mention, they force you to pay for a subscription before you can even download updates. Its a nice huge kick to the balls on your 30 day subscription.

Thank you for the response, but that link doesn't allow me to create a character. The bottom line is they have a very primitive system in place. It is amazing that with all of the servers they have, they can't handle the players logging on after a simple patch.
