    Lots of shipped HDDs are broken on arrival (DOA would be simpler). Especially Samsung had problems with whole charges of HDDs that didn't operate correctly. My 2TB Samsung HDD disabled itself after ~20h usage xD
    But a friend had a SSD that was "half dead" as half of the disk was unaccessible(caused read/write errors).
    Maybe you should run checkdisk or use a SMART tool.
