    Patch 1.18 explained.

I see a lot of you complain a lot about the new patch. I didn't play the game for months because to me it felt unplayable but now with the new patch it all changed... a bit.

1.18 was hyped way too much by SE. It's not a magical patch by any means but it is the first step in the right direction for this game.

See this as a building being built. Patch 1.18 is the foundation and basement... the following patches will be the floors and everything else. Of course now it feels incomplete and that is because it is. But it will be much better by this the end of the summer.

Even foundation and basement need adjustments without doubts.

Gondai: We’ll continue to break up what we’re working on over a number of patches, first 1.18 and then 1.19, and so on. It’d be impossible to release everything all at once. But I hope people won’t judge us too harshly on that, saying stuff like “Is this all there is to patch 1.18?!” It might not be for us to say, but I think things are going smoother than we expected, so please wait just a bit longer.

I don't think SE hyped 1.18 too much. They did make it clear to the player what was coming before releasing it though.

Tbh this is the key factor many people are forgeting. I admit that I'm enjoying v1.18 so far, and I have high hopes and expectations for v1.19 and others they have down the line. SE have stated (as you have mentioned) that this is the first in many fixes, and should not be seen as a finished product.

Ok, so many people are complaining about many changes they believe have unbalanced the game somewhat. But looking at things in a long term perspective, I dont think this is the case. Archers were rather strong compared to other classes. I imagine many archers will frown at that remark, but please keep with me lol.

So Archers have been taken down a little. But taking into account that they are the only long ranged none-magic role, I can see how it is easy for this class to get out of hand. They have the range, AND the armour, health etc. I personally think the changes to Archers was justified.

Bringing on other classes, Cons seem to have been taken down a spot also. But this is a good thing. There is no point in playing a game if you have a pretty much invincible party, due to the Con having so much mp that he/she does not feel the need to stop hitting the "cure" spell. I think this is a good balance, as with the Archer having to think thing through a little.

Taking this into account and back to my opening statement about long term. This does promote the need for party roles. Let's keep in mind that this game is still young in the MMO world and it has alot of development on its way. By the time new expansions etc are out, there will be much greater need for strong, solid tactics. Atm the moment, we are learning such tactics by considering our skills and abilities in the game today. Even at solo'd play we must keep check now.

Instead of seeing this patch (and future patches) cursing our roles, why not take this oportunity now to take a learning curve at this and develop as the roles do. There will be future changes to these roles (and others). With that in mind, along with different aspects of the game, why not embrace these changes as a chance to fine-tune your styles of play

Anyway, I hope this has given people some thought. If I have missed anything, I'd love to hear a constructive addition to what I have placed

The thing is this patch added the beginning of major overhauls and some of it was a mistake because it made the game partly un-enjoyable. Like the leves rework, all we have is part of it and so it comes off not really doing what it should and players are frustrated they can't progress as they should be.

I spend most of my time solo or in small groups and I have to say leves and behest are a waste of time right now. There's people in game who've come back because they've heard of the patch but haven't read the notes and are totally lost, well that's partly their fault, but adding in systems that are only partly done doesn't help either.

And some of us have to relearn our place in the game and that in itself will be an adjustment. Personally I'm looking forwards to the next 6 months eagerly but I can understand people getting annoyed with the way they release things.

With the change to the battle system, everyone should've expected to have to relearn their classes. And if they can't take just 5 minutes to do that then oh well.

The reason that some content seems partly finished is because SE tried to release as much as they possibly could for this patch. That's why they're redoing more of the battle system in 1.19. And for those complaining about the outrageous MP costs (which I think are great compared to the amount of MP we get anyway) they'll probably modify them a bit in 1.19 as well.

As for the leves and behest, from the beginning they were meant for casual players, even when Tanaka's team was in charge. All Yoshida did was make sure it stays that way. And I don't mind it either. It gives others with more time on their hands to be able to go out and find other means of leveling, and from what I've read on the boards there are a few camps that can yield good SP, and there are probably more that people don't even know about.

I don't think it was as clear as you make it out to be. I'm at this point not a fan of 1.18. Auto attack is extremely slow to me... I would rather go back to what the "battle content" was like before this patch and the adjustment to jobs was never stated or to what extent. 1 Unlike! The encampments are a nice touch but useless at the point. Grand companies are a nice touch.. but with the adjustments to the battle classes most will have to relearn how to play there R50's ...it's a little crazy at the moment.
Oh and there is SP......... But This is only a couple days into the new patch.. I thank the dev teams for the work put in and look forward to seing the "Building" completed and seing players stay instead of leaving the game bc of various reasons.

LOL. Hyped "way too much?" They did nothing else than telling what was going to be in it. You obviously have no idea of what "hyping way too much is".

I guess your idea of not "hyping way too much" is to restrict communication to "hey, there's gonna be a 1.18 patch, look forward to it".
