What announcement? Are you calling a community rep response to a forum post - that most unsubbed players are unlikely to read - an "announcement"? That's a pretty lackluster way to make such an announcement, especially when the Welcome Back campaign was promoted in such a big way in the 2.3 trailer. I know it says "dates are subject to change", but I would have thought a professional game company would decide on and announce such a change a little earlier than the day before the campaign was supposed to begin.
The Welcome Back campaign is/would've been a big draw for unsubbed players to return. I know it was for me. Now that it's not happening, I resubbed to check out 2.3 anyway. At least for 30 days.
So maybe that was SE's scheme all along, to get people excited about a free weekend and plan to return on those dates, then secretly stop promoting it hoping people will forget and resub anyway without having to lose money giving away a free weekend.
I know you community reps are just the messengers, but whoever is in charge of PR/marketing at SE should get the message that people remember stuff like this. It leaves a very bad feeling when devs change their minds from what was announced, which may be for good reasons, but then not say anything about it until pressed. Remember Novus relic quest delay? Or Coil 1 Echo boost delay? Or a number of relatively small things that create a big thing in sum? The players do.
The complaints aren't so much about delaying the campaign (although it sucks for those who may have planned their weekend around it), but about this pattern of bad communication between devs > community reps > players regarding changes to previous announcements.
