What they should do is just get rid of the desynth cap.

The only "use" it has is to allow a few players to fulfill their dreams of "cornering the market" and driving prices up while screwing everyone that likes to level everything and be self-sufficient.

I know how you feel and was upset about this too. I played XI and they limited how many levels you could put into your crafting so you could only master 1 craft. I was excited that I could do it all here and not have to rely on others if I wanted to do it all.

But the truth is that it has caused the market to be flooded in most aspects. Not a bad thing for consumers, sucky for producers. Limiting the amount of desynth skill might actually allow those that put all that time and effort to max it out to make gil off of it in the long term instead of the short term.

Account Cancelled because of Desynthesis (part 1)

This is in 3 parts due to the 1000-character limit on a single post.

I'm sure nobody actually cares that I've stopped giving SE money, but the reasons are relevant to this thread.

The one unique thing about FFXIV ARR, that I've never seen in my very long MMORPG career (uninterrupted since the start of Ultima Online) is that you can be all classes, crafting and gathering and combat, on one character. This is what attracted me to the game despite some fairly bad experiences with FFXI and the horrible reviews of the original FFXIV. And it was indeed fun! But with Desynthesis, they have broken the one unique feature that made them special - now you have one system you can't fully explore on one character. Leveling up a character through the main questline is really painful, so I don't expect very many will try to do all possible Desynthesis classes on alts... even if there were a way to send materials and other items to your own alts.

The other problem with Desynthesis, aside from the poor decision of a global limit, in violation of every precedent they have shown us to date, is that it is badly implemented. You start losing skill points on random classes immediately. There is no game-supported way to control this. The NA patch notes SPECIFICALLY say this won't happen until your aggregate skill reaches 300, and Yoshi-P has confirmed that this is how it is meant to work in interviews. This is an obvious bug, and I haven't seen it fixed in the flurry of emergency patches.

So ultimately, I turned off my account because they are getting sloppy, and heading in a direction that I don't find fun. Your mileage may vary, I'm not trying to convince anyone else to do the same, but I do want to point out what it is they have done and why you should be worried.

There is now a precedent for imposing limitations on what you can do one one character. The community rep has tried to convince us that it was correct as coded in direct contradiction to what the producer has publicly stated.

There has been no relaxation on the total block on any way you might think of to send items to yourself. Also no relief on the horrible grind required to level another character, but that's kinda redundant given that you can't share items or gil anyway. So if you really liked maxing all the trade skills, as I did, you can't do it anymore in a useful manner even if you are willing to go thru the excruciating pain of leveling an alt.

Anyway, if you are having fun, keep having fun! I for one am not spending another penny on this game until desynthesis is debugged and fixed and hopefully redesigned to be like ALL THE OTHER GAME SYSTEMS.

I really hope YoshiP will have read your post....
This post is so good, and I absolutely agree that this design defeats the original concept for multi-class,
IMO you should create a new thread for this message as it covers the root problem but not just something about losing some skill points.

What exactly is it that you feel you're missing out on? I mean it's less interactive than storing your stuff in the bank or repairing your gear. Level one of your desynthesis skills to five and you've pretty much experienced all fun there is to be had desynthesizing things.
