What is Thaumaturge (THM) now?

Finally, I found a way to join to our Lodestone forums ^^.

First of all, I want sincerely thank all the folks who stands behind development and
improvement of FFXIV project, at least for bringing out patch 1.18.

Well, something is worriing me since the last patch day ... especcially use of DoM class like THM (Thaumaturge).

Following issues are bothering me:

- all the heals are working only(!) on single targets, not in case of Conjurer
- nukes, casted as THM, are dealing only like a half of damage matchable with CON
- 'Spirit Dart', buffs and anything else is working the same way as CON

Now my question: what is a DoM class Thaumaturge is all about, after patch 1.18?

It is a debuff and enfeebling class, and, I may be wrong here, I don't remember AoE Cure working prior to the separation of Cure and Curega.

I could never really figure out what a Thaumaturge was supposed to do without any other class skills. CON and THA really rely on each other.

AoE cure worked fine before, I know one reason for splitting AoE cure and single cure is because players (be they stupid or forgetful) couldnt handle pressing another button to switch AoE on or off when switching from heals to nukes. The other could be the Dev team not being able to figure out how to increase MP costs when AoE is on.

Now the only reason I wish to rank my THM from 47 to 50 is to get all the nifty abilities to use in my Conjaturge (CON+THM+Trancendance=Conjaturge)

I always looked at the Con as a White mage type and the Thur as a Black mage Type. Never mind that Con also has alot of nuke type spells. I do use the two interchangeably Spending most time as a thur mage in RED gear, the combined attributes are similar to a RED mage. Though we are not so lucky to be permitted a sword or quiver.

Mages though have not been effected nearly as much as other combat jobs. Mages got, adjusted.
The only good thing was that we can now stack our spells better.

THM is still an awesome mage. I went and soloed some Amalj'aa on it the other day. They were 9 ranks above me and I pwnd their faces.

THM is whatever you want it to be. Last night I was THM and the main tank healer for the dungeon. Worked out quite well.

Banish does crazy good damage now, and the DoTs are still effective.

THM is still great, just not god-like anymore.

Was always supposed to be this way but game was way unbalanced in the beginning. THM was never meant to be a 'nuker' mage or the main healer. Instead, it is supposed to whittle down a mob over time. I've played around with my THM post patch and it is still a pretty powerful mage, only now you get to do what it was designed to do. Lastly, THM is still the best 'main tank healer'. Sacrifice spells still do better than cures to keep tank alive overall and THM has the absorb def/attack/etc spells that can add extra buffs to tank depending on needs.

I play THM as DoT/Debuff and assist in healing......Stygian Spikes is now a heck of a handa buff, as MP have become so much more valuable.
