Hello forums.

I don't plan to be terribly active on the forums for this game, but I just wanted to stop in and make a noobie thread. I haven't played an MMO seriously since DAoC was still new but I was pleasantly surprised by FFXIV and I think I'm hooked.

Any general tips or great links would be appreciated. I do plan to peruse the forums and read stickies, and I've found the wiki page. I just find it's always a good idea to give people a chance to give their 2¢ and good tips. Can't hurt, might help.

My only trouble so far is with the Archer. I want to do both Dragoon and Black Mage on my main character, but there are only three starter towns for quests. I started as lancer and the quests didn't reset when I went to Archer. Need to find a way to get over this hump from 11->15 Archer without burning quests and without any Gil.

Off to read stickies and hop between FATE events as an Archer, see how the XP is on that!

There are a ton of "how do I level" posts but the short version is:

• First class - just do the quests available at least through level 10. Make sure to do the level 5 and 10 class quests!
• Other classes and first class after level 10 - the hunting log and challenge log both give good xp boosts. The hunting log entries can only be completed once for each class. The challenge log resets every week.
• In general - leves, leves, and more leves. Particularly for crafting and gathering.
• Don't neglect guildhests - you get bonus xp for doing each one for the first time with each class
• After level 15 - dungeons and some FATE grinding
• After 2+ dungeons unlocked - the low level roulette gives a lot of bonus xp so do it daily

You will also accumulate bonus rest xp while you are in a sanctuary or inn, even when you are offline. You will notice is as a change in the color of the xp bar.
It is very easy to burn through all of the bonus xp and other "low hanging fruit" if you are trying to powerlevel but the game basically hands you at least a level a day. Doing just the low-level and guildhest roulettes each day gives me ~1.5 levels.

Found those in the middle menus I hadn't poked around in. Thought they were just achievement trackers like most MMO's (kill a bagillion of this and a ziltillion of that recorded @ account level) but there's a ton of quick little ones in here for archer. This should keep me busy to 15 no problem. Thanks!
