Wasting your time leveling cul's desynth

You should have thought about the importance of desynthing and which classes you need.
I'm going for
-bsm
-weav
-alch
Because bsm can desynth
Mrd, pld, mnk, and mettalic furniture / gear.
Weaver can do a lot of clothes and a variety of furniture.
And alch due to all the primal whm weps requiring alch to desynth.
I have some fc buds working on ltw and carp desynths.
I just really don't get y ppl would waste their time on cul.

Well, in the first place no one knows much about desynthesis so far, so why not kick off with the one that costs nothing (and which actually makes a profit!)? Yes, it takes time, and in the same time that you spend desynthing a stack of fish you could make more money simply by mining shards (for example), but it gives the rest of us something to do while the pioneers invest big money in desynthing crafted stuff.

Also, while nothing I've seen so far in desynthing fish is worth the trouble, I've only just dinged 50 on fishing and I am not equipped to catch big fish. It may be that those will give items that are of equivalent value to the other high-end desynths.

It's too early to rule out culinarian, or rule in the other desynths. Whatever, though, it makes sense to do culinarian and let it be eroded by the other desyntheses if those turn out to be smarter.

Seems to have been a while since someone has posted here. Here is a list of fish to desynth and yes, with the big fish, you can get IV materia, excluding elemental. I suggest using Tinker's Calm after you've gotten a nice batch of 'greens.'

On the topic of CUL desynth, note that the Better Crowned Pies are desynthable and the best way to get from 95 to 110. Since the highest ilvl of a fish (including the Nepto Dragon) is only 80, getting from 105 to 110 on just fish would be a nightmare. At 105 skill, you only have a 75% chance of getting 0.01 skill from a max level fish, and at 109, the chance is ~10% for getting 0.01 skill.
