Culinarian Desynthesis

It seems culinarians can only desynthesize fishes and not meals, can anyone else confirm this? Maybe there's are exceptions somewhere. I suppose it could be pretty cheating if they could desynthesize meals but I still can't help but feel a little dissapointed. On the other hand, I guess gutting fishes can leave room for some "fun," rare, and unique items. Unfortunately, this might mean that its gonna be a freaking pain to level desynthesis on culinarian.

Culinarian is quick & cheap to level for desynthesis: I got to 66 today spending only a few hundred on trash fish and fishing up the rest. So far the reward has been a load of water shards and the very occasional clear demimateria. I agree that it makes no sense for culinarian only to be able to desynth uncrafted seafood ... perhaps the logic will become clear, but I am confused by this.

So you're only getting water shards too eh?
Maybe each class only gets 1 type of shard, perhaps in significantly larger quantities at 100 skill.
Could be SE's "solution" to shard bots?

I desynthed a crowned pie not moments ago. Got a brass ring and shards.

I haven't tried that many types of fish yet, but it would seem that certain types of fish have a chance to be turned into more than just fine sand.

For example mudcrabs can be turned into mudstones, and blowfish into weak silence potions.

Update: I also got a Grade 2 Clear Prism from a lamp marimo

I'm noticing that the fish that have the possibility of an item also give shards. The lamp marimos seem to be giving me 1-2 shards, but the amount seems to be random.

Fish can give lures too it seems. Oh and a Shadow Catfish can turn into a ... Tree toad?

Fish seems to give something that is "related"

dyes : "Red" colored fish give red pigment, white/grey give grey pigment etc.. (so far seemed consistant)
Material : Silver fish gave me often silver sand
Don't remember which one gave me cinnabar.
Got clear prism too from lamp marino.

But common drop is sand and water shard/crystal depending level of fish. Probably some clusters for rare fish

Some varieties of fish drop other shards: I've had wind, lightning, earth and fire, but always with water.

Plaguefish drop bone chips and soiled femurs, but those are still trash desynths. The only thing I've seen as a useful ingredient is pearls from whitelip oysters, so I assume you can get black pearls from blacklip oysters, but it probably isn't worth desynthing them for black pearls due to the low success rate.

So far the best thing about desynthesis for me has been giving me a good reason to get my last three levels of fishing!

Got the skill up to ~76 with a load of 1000+ fish, often only giving 0,01-0,03 skill.
All I got so far were:
different pigments
clear prisms
water shards
wind shards
earth shards
water crystals
wind crystals
weak silencing potions
cinnabar
clear demimateria I+II
fine sand

I didn't try and high level or rare fish, but considering the cost and rarity of them, it doesn't seem like Culinarian desynthesis is very usefull except for making crystals and shards.

Someone know a type of fish which gives lightning crystals?
