1.18 is great but we still need better optimization of the game.

i have been playing almost since release and my specs are:

    athlon x4 640 (oc to 3.5ghz)
    8gb ddr2 corsair
    750 watt antec psu
    gainward gtx 260 (slightly oc)
    windows 7 64 bit

i know what you going to say why am i still rocking a gtx 260 when the rec is a gtx 460, well various reasons the first being that all my other games (cysis2, witcher 2, batmanAA etc) work great and i can have most games on default high, and secondly i have a lot of bills to pay so a new gc has to wait:P

so i have read in various places that the game is not well optimized especially for hd's, which i have a couple of and FFXIV is installed on a samsung 1tb sata 2 7200rpm. i can understand this taking a long time but i think the dev team should maybe try focusing more on optimising the game itself rather than simple annoying in game bugs and content.

i use this guide here to toggle the nvidia settings:
    http://ffxiv.findtalk.net/t29-graphic-tweak-and-setting-for-lower-end-pc

and i find in a lot of areas, places where i was getting 30fps i now get 38 to 42 fps which is a nice little boost but im still gettting the same lag everyone else gets in say Uldah like 20 fps which is simply unacceptable to be honest.

I love the game to bits but i find it very hard to play it when its soo laggy in certain area's and i know if the dev team just focused on ironing out these hardware problems for a little while and delivered an overall smoother game play experience a lot of people including myself would be happy and could play for a few hours with no problems

    what do u guys think?

will the game eventually be better optimized?

any recommendations to anything ive said?

Right now this is all I want to see happen. I can run ALL other games on max settings, but FFXIV slaps me in the face every time I open it.

I think they're placing more focus on in-game content then optimization since the release for the PS3 is pretty much their main hope for getting the game as popular as they'd like. However, I agree that it needs more optimization. I have a decent rig, play every game at amazing detail, be it MMO or single player. I pass the minimum requirements by a decent amount and still have to deal with lag, over-pixelated characters because of being forced to run on low detail and horrible looking background scenery. I admit the game looks fantastic, but I know it could be programmed better for much less lag. Not to mention ever since this patch I can't even log in as the program stops responding and crashes almost right after selecting my character.

The poor optimization of this game is what is preventing me from playing it. I know my setup can handle the game just fine ( and did during beta, up until an update closely after launch) at medium-high settings but when I go into town my frame rates are so terrible it's unplayable in it's current state. I think that this should be their focus for the near future so more people will be able to enjoy the game.

Agreed. I am pretty disappointed that I am not able to run this game at its highest settings with an enthusiast rig (10-15 FPS). A sad thing because the game is absolutely beautiful on max settings and with ambient occlusion. I'd say optimization should be fairly high on their priority list.

If you had 3 GTX580 and the right SLI mode forced it should work with max settings :P

I've just left it on Nvidia recommended. Frames drop drastically with AFR2, they drop even further with AFR1, and Single GPU is surprisingly the same framerate as Nvidia recommended.

Yes, the framerate with AFR is sometimes really bad. Did you try Scissor-Mode (SFR)?
