I think it's funny sandfishing tells you "You cast your line into the waters of the Sagolii dunes." Is it flooded now?Southeast is still sagolii monkfish territory. The only spot where you can fish up Olgoi is the spot next to the amaljaa encampment.
Also, the game actually tells you where you are fishing now when you cast(I love this). If it says you're fishing at Sagolii Desert, you're in the Sagolii Monkfish/Magic Carpet area. If it says you are fishing in the Sagolii Dunes, it's the Caravan Eeel/Olgoi area.
Check your fishing log too. It will tell you the fishing spot and whats there

Anyone have any more observations on the less Perc experiment? Im curious to hear more from fellow fisherman
just recently stumbled upon this thread I will try this out tomorow =o and see what happens.
I just tried shoeless method and got one right away what the hell!
I checked meldable items. Linen Gaiters and Linen Wedge Cap of Crafting both accept +3 gathering melds. Patrician stuff also wont go higher than 3. Best belt seems to be DoH's Dodore Belt with +4 gathering meld. You don't need items to be HQ btw.

This is dumb, I'm not going to make another set for fisher now lol. I hope they fix how perception works with catching fish.
in theory we use less perception to get smaller olgois in trust that they need less gathering to finally catch themI just tried shoeless method and got one right away what the hell!

but even with only 177 Perc. your olgoi is huge with 106 ilms, which somehow negates all theorys
from trying around with several gathering and perc combos I can just say everything makes no sense for me x)
sometimes I'm able to reel the 2.3 fish with high gathering & low perc, sometimes not
same for high gathering, high perc

Yea its really silly. but i can go on a huge dry spell of nothing with 383G and 304P and then drop my stuff to 355G and 180P and then ill get one and be left thinking did that really affect my catch. Fishing is still very unclear. I wish they could shed some light on exactly what gathering and perception actually did. Instead of speculation and tooltips.in theory we use less perception to get smaller olgois in trust that they need less gathering to finally catch them

i think so too. 2 points of data is not enough. We all need to go naked and fish like there's no tomorrow
The biggest problem to any kind of extensive testing we try to do is that when a fish gets away, we have no idea how big it is. We can't see if there's a correlation between big fish and failed catches. I'm really not sure how to get the right data here to prove or disprove the hypothesis.
If we assume that the chance of hooking a fish is constant with respect to gathering/perception and the only real variable we're looking for here is the chance of catching a hooked fish, we could check how many times fish were caught vs the fish got away with different levels of perception. We'd need about a thousand data points though to minimize the effects of RNG on the data, and that's a lot of data points...
