Acheron / Phlegethon Syrcus Tower Drops

    DISREGARD THIS POST

    OP

I wanted to post this just in case I wasn't reading it wrong.

In this thread, we're told that the enemy we know as Acheron is having his name changed to Phlegethon, paving the way for the true Acheron to be in the new Syrcus Tower. However, the notes for Patch 2.3 contain a list of Syrcus Tower drops themed after the bosses therein. Shouldn't all the drops labeled Phlegethon's X be Acheron's X?

    Am I misreading something?

I am wondering(if anyone from the loc team is going to read this to begin with) as to why the Loc team did not rename Acheron into Hecatoncheir. My reasoning for this(if SE permits), this guy is a boss is found in the Cave of Shadows, guarding the Fang of Earth. Which I understand it's hard to name things, but hecatoncheir has the same look as our 'Acheron' does to Titan in Ancient's Labyrinth. I understand that you(the loc team) do not want to get trapped into the name change again and I know Hecatoncheir is a boss in Copperbell Mines, but why not change Hecatoncheir into Hecaton(leaving out the cheir) or hekaton and renaming formor Acheron into Hecatoncheir or... Why not Hyper >.> <.<... >.> .... Haha(Final Fantasy III summon for titan is hyper)

I think they should just rename old Acheron to Ancient Sephiroth so the fanboys would drool and would surely pay 180 days in advance.

Or call the new Acheron " Syrcus Acheron "

If changing the name of one monster was such a chore, I'd assume that it'd be the same for what you're suggesting, in changing yet another monster's name. I think Fernehalews has justified the localisation teams choice and action, and I think it fits in with the ethos and lore of Eorzea.

As for OP's question, I'd assume where it names loot for "Phlegethon", there may be new loot that is fashioned after the appearance of Phlegethon that you can obtain within Syrcus Tower.

Hecatonchier is more than just a mob in Copperbell, it's an entire species within the Gigant genus (the other two being Giants and Gigas). There's a ton of speculation out there already about what connection, if any, the Allag have to the Gigants (who claim to be descendants of the Allag and venerate Crystal Tower as a sacred object). This name would throw fuel on that fire - which might not be something they want.

To put it more clearly, in the patch notes' list of new gear, in the iLV100 slot, we have The Guardian's X, Amon's X, Scylla's X, and Phlegethon's X - implying that Syrcus Tower's drops will be iLV100 and themed after its bosses - The Guardian, Amon, Scylla, and... Acheron. I think they named the gear using the newly-created name, forgetting that the new name was going to the old mob and the new mob was getting the old name.

    Thanks for clarifying.

What I meant was that there was no themed armour in The Labyrinth of the Ancients (themed, as in themed after the bosses), therefore the naming of Phlegethon's X could just denote equipment that is fashioned after the final boss of the Labyrinth of the Ancients. Rather than replacing the loot in The Labyrinth of the Ancients, they decided to put it in Syrcus Tower.

Ahh, this is possible. I suppose I'll know soon enough! lol

    EDIT:
Yeah, seems you're right - the gear just calls back to a boss that's not in the dungeon. Unexpected, but no errors to report. *updates OP*
