The possibility of a Generatinal Saga

Right now FF XIV had two playable campaigns Legacy and the current storyline. The former is an adaption of 1.0's plot if knowledge serves. It got me thinking (especially considering the long plots of MMO's in general.) If the series would center on Erozea as the era go by, trough the eyes of a seemingly immortal adventure,

We;ve already seen some aspects surfacing, particularly with the Levelliers. What if the game advances to a point where a new generation of characters start to surface as the old generation passes into the aether.

What if the plot focuses on family and the history of Erozea as it is made?

I doubt it - you only have to look at FFXI which has five expansions, six 'mini' expansions and has been running for over twelve years now. And narrative wise, it is still in the same time period as it was when the game first launched (narrative wise no time has really passed), that is, 20 years after the Crystal War. I really think narrative wise time isn't going to advance too far from the 'five years after the Calamity' as the story advances through patches and eventually expansions.

The Echo was a convenient plot device that made an expansion like FFXI's Wings of the Goddess unnecessary. I think if we see an expansion take us further back, echo or no echo, it will be to a time far earlier than silvertear skies. It would be fun to see Allag at its peak... I don't think we have a real generational saga here. I don't think we're going to go anywhere near that territory because I believe that Hydaelyn chose us regardless of whatever legacy we have. Any prior generation of Scions, imho, would have been chosen in a similarly arbitrary manner. Or in a more utilitarian manner. IE, people who were believed by Hydaelyn to be likely to carry out her will were chosen rather than those who might have outstanding talent with The Echo. Because if you believe as I do, choosing purely on the basis of potential didn't go so well for her the last time.

We already have way enough things to do in the current world to even think about future or past. We're on one continent, and it's not even complete : We still have to visit Xelphatol, Gyr Abania, most of Coerthas, all the south of Mor Dhona, Dravania/Sharlayan, Paglth'an, and a few islands.
Then we have the whole Ilsibard, Othard, Meracydia, and the new world.

Also, there isn't really anything aiming in the direction of a generational saga. In the two years of 1.0, we were stuck in the same point of time. Now we're just stuck 5 years later, and it was possible solely because the whole game was remade.
Moving in time in a MMO means rewriting most dialogues, and it'd take a hell of a time. Time you couldn't spend to make new stories, or even finding new ideas.

FFXI has yet to explore 2 1/2 continents, it still found time to take an extended visit to its immediate past. But I digress.

I'd like to first point out your premise is flawed. The legacy storyline is NOT a retelling of the 1.0 storyline. They get the same storyline outside of small changes to reflect that you were there. There is a time gap between 1.0 and 2.0, but only to justify the drastic changes that occurred. I highly doubt they'd have us span generations just because.
