Questions about Class/Job system

Hi guys, very new to this game (5-6 hrs 11th level) but not new to MMO's or RPG's at all.

As I understand it, this game has a dynamic class system allowing for you to spend time on various classes you want to improve.

I started as a pugilist as I like monks in general.

My question is simple. How exactly do you change your currently active class?

As I understand it i'll need to complete 30 levels of pugilist and 15 levels of lancer to become a monk.

I'm not sure how/where to change back and forth.

To change classes you need to join that guild and equip that classes weapon on your main hand. Level up more until you get to the airships so you can travel between lands. I forget what level, but keep playing the main story line.

I've seen guild masters for other guilds, but have yet to get a quest from them...

Do I need to speak to them to inquire about a quest and then they offer me the ability to switch?

You speak with the guild receptionist, near the door when you enter, but if there is no quest icon above them, then you have not reached a high enough level yet. Again I can't remember what level you need to be, sorry I'm not much more help than that.

No worries mate, you've been very helpful. I'm only 11th - I have 19 more levels to go before I need to switch to lancer =)

Pretty sure the bolded part is incorrect, but the rest is true. I don't think there's anything advertising those quests. The receptionist will give you some expository text, then they'll give you a yes/no option if you're still interested in the guild, and if you say yes, THEN the quest icon will show up.

I'm pretty the requirement to join other guilds is that you have completed the lv10 class quest for your current class before you can join any other guild.

Now that you say that you are probably right, kinda rings a bell. It's been awhile since I joined a new guild so I couldn't remember how it went.

The guild quests are no longer advertised on the map, though the NPC (guild receptionist) still has a quest icon above their head. As Raldo said, the requirement is completing your level 10 class quest. After that your guildmaster will tell you specifically that you're free to check out other guilds and then some help text will pop up and give you a run down.

This is exactly it.

Of course, only so many disciplines are in your hometown - you'll need to complete the level 15 Story Quests to get your airship pass, at which point you'll be able to fly to other cities and get the various disciplines unavailable to you.

For a final note, you have infinite freedom to level classes at whatever pace you want; and can level every class to max in time if you want. You also get +50% base EXP gain on classes that aren't your currently highest levelled.
