    NOTORIOUS MONSTERS!!!

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...43#post2242343

The Hunt, a new initiative started by the Eorzean Alliance, will have adventurers tracking down and defeating notorious monsters roaming the land referred to as "elite marks," as well as visiting the Hunt board at each of the Grand Companies for bounties being offered to quell the lesser threats found in Eorzea. While any monster with a bounty on its head is considered a "mark," an elite mark, as the name implies, poses a much greater threat to the realm.
    YESSSS!!!

Oh god I'm SO excited for the hunts to come to the world.
Especially their non-instanced description sounds so good.

Also no claims! AND they can't be tracked down by fate signals!!

I'm sure these will breathe new life to the open world.

What do you think and what are you hoping "the Hunt" system will be like?

Does the implementation sound like something NM opposers still hate?

Don't get too excited cause it's just gonna be another treasure hunt, most likely. For some reason I just know it's gonna be that way and SE's just getting people's hopes up again.

That said, if I am wrong (and believe me I certainly hope I am) that would make things quite interesting.

I don't know how it will work yet, but I'm hoping you sort of spawn them yourself like a leve mark or something like that.

As most don't enjoy waiting for a fate to appear, neither do I really. If I have some control over tracking down the NM I'll be happy. :P I don't mind it being hard, but if it's a known spot and we just sit there for 45min-hour for it to appear, there is no sport in that...

I'm pretty sure they have thought this stuff through though. I'm looking forward to see how it will work.

Elite marks can appear in any area, with some of them appearing only when certain conditions are met. Add to that the fact that they won't always appear in the exact same spot. You'll also come across hunter-scholars in each area, who are more than willing to share with you what they know of the elite marks you're after.
I certainly hope you don't "SPAWN" them yourself. That would take the entire point from a system like this to even exist. *shivers*

Sounds exactly like a boss FATE (aka named monsters, aka notorious monsters), except no map boundaries. Instead, people will have to take the extra step to look up the leash coordinates on a wiki, camp, and have fun.

Instead of doing FATEs to earn a currency to turn in for items and stuff, Hunts "should" drop mediocre gear at a ridiculous RNG droprate, or use another currency to do the exact same thing FATEs are currently doing (which will be the best alternative).

Either way, I'm not for or against Hunts, but I see them as FATEs renamed, just to keep a vocal crowd happy for a little while longer.

lol, if you think you'll get a glimpse of these NMs, in the first few months, you might be deluding yourself. Though I CAN claim that I went to Behemoths Dominion once and saw him there with only 3 other players waiting for others VERY early in the morning. But like Odin and Behemoth - and to an extent, some FATEs regarding the Atma grind - if you're not around when they spawn, you won't be able to make it before they get roflstomped by overgeared parties.

It sounded a lot like the bounties in FFXII, which I loved, so either way its gonna get us out in the open again. I just hope the weather factor isn't as ambiguous as the sightseeing log in drybone that required rain and you only had a 1hr time frame to do the emote.

Don't get me wrong I understand your concern but I don't think these are meant to be blasted through like a shopping list you check off. Instead you might appreciate running into a rare hunt target in the same are you've passed thousands of times making the game world feel more alive.

The way Yoshi described it, sounds like they will be roaming and spawning in very different locations, they drop seals and rare items, and they will be working w/o a lock claim system.

If it works that way this will make this update the best one so far.

as long as it's nothing like the easter event i am fine with it. my god was that horrible.

i personally hope when we get a elite mark bill we can spawn the monster ourselves but it would be cool for extra ones to just roam around.
