    Launcher Crash

I have been able to play FF14 ARR normally for a little more than a month. One day the launcher just starts to crash whenever I open it. It says FF14 ARR has stopped working and then closes. I re-installed it twice with no change.

Open up your Windows Event Viewer and look under Windows Logs > Application. Should see an Application Error for the launcher with information on what's causing it.

Windows cannot access the file C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshtml.dll for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn because of this error.

Program: FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn
    File: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshtml.dll

The error value is listed in the Additional Data section.
    User Action
    1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.
    2. If the file still cannot be accessed and
    - It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
    - It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.
    3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.
    4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy.
    5. Determine whether other files on the same disk can be opened. If not, the disk might be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for further assistance.

    Additional Data
    Error value: C000009C
    Disk type: 3

I then went into the SE folder in my program files and used ffxivboot.exe to start the launcher. I then got "A system error has occured: -2146697208 HTTPS System Error". I have just read someone else's fix to this problem. Is there any other fix or does anyone have an idea as to what caused the change all of a sudden?

Changing DNS settings wouldn't affect this. Your launcher is having trouble trying to load a necessary module (mshtml.dll is an HTML viewer, probably for the news feed). The exception code you are receiving is the part to worry about though.

STATUS_IN_PAGE_ERROR (0xc0000006) basically means the launcher is saying "I need to access Information-A from the hard drive; Information-A cannot be read from the hard drive."

Best case scenario, you just need to run a check disk which may fix up some bad sectors.
If that doesn't do it the hard drive may be toast, or close to it.

I ran the check disk through the link you sent and from the cmd prompt and no errors occured. Also, I am running windows 8.1.

Is my hard drive (SSD) really broken? Everyone thing else on my computer works fine except for FF14.

You could try looking at a S.M.A.R.T/health testing program to see if it confirms any failures, but getting 0xc0000006 more often than not is a disk problem. Could be something as simple as a bad connection too, just unplug the SSD from the motherboard then plug it back in. Maybe the wire itself is bad and you just need to connect your SSD through a new one, anything that could affect the reading really.

However, since it just appears to be this one file that is problematic and unable to be read, you could also just try running a System Check. Hopefully it will replace the file into a readable location.
