An objection about the new achievement "The Crying Game"

    "The Crying Game
Defeat Nael deus Darnus within the fourth turn of the Second Coil of Bahamut (Savage).
    Title: Domitor"
    (from the 2.3 patch notes)

The decision to localise the achievement title like this is transmisogynistic. The name comes from a film entitled The Crying Game in which the lead female character is revealed to be transgender. The scene involves the man she is involved with being disgusted by the discovery that she is transgender and running out of the room to throw up. I'm sure I don't need to spell out why this is offensive in itself.

It's appalling that Square Enix would choose something like this to represent an achievement for defeating Nael in battle. It's inappropriate to make a joke about transgender women when it relates to an achievement for an act of violence.

I notice that the Japanese version makes no reference to, or joke at the expense of, Nael's gender or appearance. So why was this necessary? If the localisation team REALLY wanted to make some kind of reference, why choose a film that contains a scene that is frankly incredibly disrespectful and offensive to trans women?

I'm sure if they changed it, you'd just look for something else super vague to be offended about.

What does Nael have to do with transgendered anything? They just used a movie title. That's not endorsing the movie (though IIRC, it did win a bunch of awards.)

Why, oh why in those last twenty years, we went 10 steps backwards regarding freedom of expression. Nowadays people take everything like they are attacked...

Don't take every play on words, reference or anything wrongly everytime. Just take them for what they are, and stop looking for a special hidden meaning insulting someone or a group of person on the earth.

This world is not going the right way... its really sad...

    Greetings all.

Allow me the opportunity to apologize for the LOC team's choice of achievement name for the new Savage Coil. This was not done with the intent to offend, but to merely be another of our numerous shout-outs to random pop culture. We want these things to be as fun for as many people as possible, so if one is causing a player hurt, then it's our job to consider an alternative...and that's what we've decided to do here.

The patch data is already locked, so the name in question cannot be replaced until our first hotfix (which will come when it comes). However, I will personally make sure that the text is updated at that time...to "Scent of a Woman." (insert groans here)

Again, we deeply apologize, and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.

I feel hurt and disgusted by the fact that if you create a topic saying that you are " offended " by a couple of words from the name of an achievment (!!!!) you get WAY more attention of the dev team than if you created a topic with REAL game issues.

Just as kiraan said on this thread...

Yes, how DARE the OP make a suggestion to change a potentially off-putting Achievement Title in the Localization Forums....and then be answered back by the Localization Team.

Just because you might think it's small potatoes, doesn't make it any less important. Ferny's job is to handle matters such as this and he did. The OP put their topic in the proper forum and gave reasons why it should be addressed (I have never seen the movie in question so I would have been oblivious to the title). You might think it's a small thing...and prefer other 'game mechanic' etc things were addressed/fixed....that's fine...but that's not the point of THIS part of the forums, nor can those respective teams always respond as quickly...since the 'Real game issue' stuff you're probably referring to IS a little more complex than what words they give to a title representing a cleared battle.

I'll reply with another quote from Camate...
