I can't see it taking more than 1 run to figure it out. Use an ability as he's readying Inferno Drop, if it interrupts it you got it, if not try something else. It doesn't require any "special" skill and you'll likely shoot yourself in the foot for not realizing it before.

ive been thinking about suggesting our DDs bring throwing weapons for the ogre.

Same deal, they will want the real ranged DDs, not the makeshifts.

FYI, ARC can stun it too. So even if you're doing a cheese run, AKA: ARC party, you can still do some trial and error.
