This sounds like the best way to do it, in my opinion.2.) Blue Mage XI gets a new blank slot instead of an ability that it can fill with one of the monster abilities that it's learned. Abilities are learned permanently, but only a limited number can be set. As a Class, this version can set up to 17 abilities. As a Job, it can only set 5 at a time.
If even that but it would go against everything Yoshida wanted for the game battle wise. Blue Mage really isn't a blue mage with like..4-8 spells lol, like Black Mage isnt a black mage with only Fire and Ice nukes. If it works like XI, that'd be amazing because Blue Mage can end up with 100+ spells but can only use the typical 5-9 or so skill limitation.I'm 100% positive that if/when they add Blue Mage to the game it will have the same set of restrictions that 11 does where you only get some many points (or w/e they use) to add traits and such. Yeah in 11 they have a shit ton of spells, god knows I have all of them, but we are restricted in the amount we can have set and ready for use.
I'd prefer they scrap Blue Mage and go with Gun Mage ala FFX-2 as the 2nd job for the Muskateer class. That would definitely be unique and not copy-paste FFXI.
Can it be implemented? Absolutely.
Will it work the way we think it would? Most likely not.
Personally BLU can be done easily.
Your job quest gives you straight up 3 abilities you can always use. Then you have 1 ability that steals or "becomes" a certain ability or spell until you use it up. Finally a mimic the ability that will be to broken to enjoy.
Given the way this game is set up, this seems the most likely. The quested abilities might be something more like unlocking new tiers of spells to learn. Then use a modified version of the cross-class tab, with the icons being for ability tiers instead of other classes.2.) I really would love BLU to make an appearance, but with how quick mobs die before using any sort of move, would require a total rewrite on how BLU works, really hope it does happen tho
The blue mage's lb would become aether profusion looool
Cuz it's blue?
Jk jk lol
But they would need to rework whm and blm then if blue mage and red mage joined in.
This is pretty much how I see it working as well.
The current cross-class skill system is identical to how BLU worked in FFXI so all they need to do is have a slightly modified skill interface that lets them 'slot' learned skills from a larger pool of monster skills instead of simply learning a fixed number at certain levels or from certain quests. The job quests can just unlock new slots as opposed to actual skills.
To be honest any other implementation would kill the spirit of the job as BLU has always been about going out to track down a wide variety of skills from different sources beyond the usual scope of gameplay. This gives them a great versatility that other jobs lack (kept in check through needing to select a small few to be used at any time). Having them learn monster skills through job quests would make them no different to other casters at the end of the day and there would be no point in them existing.
I would love a BLU. Base class should be Beastmaster. And it should be a tank. We need a magic tank.

Now seriously, it looks hard to implement, but you know, nin will have to combine seals to use ninjutsu, and i'm sure those seals will be obtained as job skills, there are a lot of possibilities, my answer is yes, nothing is impossible when making games.
This is indeed the best way to implement it, blu will get slots to set spells, and the cross class skill slots would also be used to set spells, that gives the blu enugh spells for being called a blue mage but avoiding the advantages of having more skill than other jobs.2.)
