Erm, in XI you can knock people/yourself offline if you log in - which was a source of many woes due to hacking.

When window remote Desktop tries to connect to a computer that has another user logged in, it allows the active user to reject the new connection. Why not do something like that, so if you were DCed, you can wait 30 seconds for your dead process to time out the reject request, whereas if a hacker tried it, as long as you weren't afk you could not only stop them, but perhaps flag their IP/MAC address as a hacker.

Why don't you fix your internet instead and you wont have this problem. In all seriousness, how do you expect them to FIX this problem? You clearly know nothing about networking or how this issue even exists, so I'll just say this.

If you disconnect during a synthesis you lose everything. It will also lock you out of the game for like 5-6 minutes. I wish I could have reconnected and finished the synth.
This really sucked when I had spotty internet.

Please refrain from making assumptions about my or others' internet. Connection failure isn't why I disconnected.

I have long been playing MMOs. FF14 is the only MMO I have encountered with this particular problem. WoW isn't the only one that's found ways around it; there are numerous others to reference. I would say it is the industry standard at this point, and maintain it should be addressed in FF14.

I think everyone can agree hacking is a problem. Fortunately, it's not a prevalent issue in FF14, in no small part because of security improvements between now and the FF11 era. For those continuing to have trouble with it, there are ways other than extended auto-log to handle it.

Lunami was referring to situations where the server disconnects a character, as was so prevalent in the era before SE changed weekly reset to Tuesdays at 1am. It does still happen, but less frequently, and impacting entire groups less often. Unfortunately, it's still not uncommon to wait five, or even ten minutes for your teammate's character to log off so he can log back in.

To those who insist there's nothing wrong with this system: how would you feel if you saw a drop you had been running months trying to get, disconnected, and were unable to log back in before the chest timer expired because your character was still online?

Try seeing a drop you've been waiting years to get (PLD AF2 body in FFXI) only to "cast lots" and get dc'ed. Coming back to find the other PLD got it because it was gonna fall to the floor and having to wait another few months at least to get it again.

But I got over it, because eye candy isn't incredibly important to me and in the long run I'd be a lot more upset if my account got hacked and I lost everything.
