Iffy question -- I once made a cast at 5:59 am, caught a Fullmoon Sardine (HQ) at around 6:08 am, and then landed Twitchbeard right around 6:20 am. So my guess is that the time and weather at the exact moment you make your cast is what determines what "window" is open to land any specific fish.

Related question to the above: Does anyone know when the window is checked for mooching? For example, using the Twitchbeard example above, could you catch an HQ Fullmoon Sardine at 2am, wait six minutes to hit the mooch button, and have a chance of getting a Twitchbeard? Or does the initial cast in the chain need to be made in the window for the final fish to have a chance at it?

For fishes that require mooching and have tight windows, I've been trying to get in an extra attempt by pre-catching the HQ base fish. I've only done it a couple times so far, but it hasn't worked yet. Wondering if I'm wasting my time trying to do it :P

I do the same thing :-) Hasn't worked yet though.

Tried to get a Captain's Chalice without food, and got the insufficient gathering message at 354 gathering. :/

I've gotten a Twitchbeard and Captain's Chalice with a pre-caught fish and waiting for the window to open.

just caught 'The Sinker' in South Shroud, fair will work as well as clear weather

not sure if 'The greatest bream in the world' is any weather, but i was able to just catch it in rain too
