What's behind the hair?

I've noticed that all the Miqote hair styles cover the sides of their head. Even the males. We have yet to see short enough hairstyles to see what exactly is behind the hair where the human ears would normally be. Can you imagine a bald Miqote?

It's because not seeing ears on the side of the head would look weird so they cover it up.

Normally, human ears would be there, but as they already have cat ears, nothing would be there.
I assume that it's done to avoid it from looking uncanny and weird.

Disembodied ears side, that's not so bad. Would like to see buzzcut manqo'te hairstyles. Not cueball like the image but enough fuzz to make the ears not look weird.
