Anyone else hope the I-level doesn't go up again in 2.4?

Hear me out. Prior to 2.2, there were countless dungeons, extreme primals, crystal tower, Coils 1-5, etc. that were perfectly tuned to having an established I-level cap of 91. With 2.2, the I-level cap was raised from 91 to 111. Here lies the problem.

When you only offer 4 new dungeons that are more difficult than what has previously been released (Coils 6-9) and the game's population steadily surpasses the previous I-level cap, everything that was released prior starts to get easier and easier to the point that it is nothing but a grind. This is only made worse by the fact that the game incentivizes the player to replay the older content to earn myth tomes and complete books. Wouldn't replaying this old content be more fun if it still retained some sort of difficulty?

Bottom line: Don't raise the item level cap - unless you're going to release a large amount of higher level content that justifies the raise in i-level.

I'm not referring to Titan Extreme or Twintania or other road block battles that people could not beat before. I'm referring to hydra, chimera, HM primals, 2.1 HM dungeons, crystal tower, etc. that were "fun" before.

There is no need to raise the item level cap so quickly. As long as there are challenges to complete and trophies to be earned - people will play.

I've always been worried of how the ilvl system is going to be handled.
Will it just continuously go up? If so, what will happen to old dungeons
Will it stop at a certain point? If so, how will we be enticed to get new gear

I'm sure they've addressed it before, and I've missed it, but I am worried at where the max item level will finish...

I do kind of hope that the ilvl doesn't increase with 2.3
I don't think it will though. CT is the only new raid, and it has i100. I doubt the Hunts will yield 110+ gear

The ilvl cap increase is a buff for players who aren't as good to clear old content that was tuned for a lower ilvl. Also, everything in ffxiv is a grind, that grind is made easier/faster by gearing up.

What you are suggesting won't break the grind, it'll just make the grind longer.

No, it's not. Not even remotely.

If they're releasing new turns they better damn well raise the ilvl with higher ilvl gear drops.

I love the disparity with the current coil and the new tomes, where clearing coil is actually needed to raise the ilvl unlike the previous one where people were able to cap to 90 by just capping tomes.
Its a great system and I hope they keep with it.

Think of increasing ilvl's more like increasing actual base levels in this game. I'm more curious as to how they're going to handle increasing level caps in this game, or if they ever are. If they do, I guess it'll be just another permanent boost to your characters stats and a few new moves.

Have to agree here, a continual increase wouldn't really be my kind of thing. I'd much rather have to choose from a variety of similar gear with different abilities, or maybe unique special abilities to certain pieces, then just throwing another 20 ilvls at it every few patches.

It won't be increased with 2.3, but it will with 2.4 in 3 months or so. Older dungeons are getting awfully silly, I agree, but it's the system they decided to use so there you have it. They opted for extremely straight forward, boring itemization that doesn't really allow for horizontal progression of any substance so the only place to go is up!

This might change and evolve in the future, but they'll need multiple worthwhile stats for theorycrafters to bicker over like double/triple attack, haste (being different from skill/spellspeed), critical hit damage, skill augmenting stats, unique additional effects, etc. Obviously the way it's set up now, more main stat = better, especially since the ilvl gaps are usually wide enough that the only secondary stat to consider (when upgrading) is accuracy, and even then only to a point.

    This is a Pure Themepark.

Do not expect anything different then now and what we see in WoW. SE stoped taking risk when 1.0 failed.

I would think the majority would prefer a ton of stuff to do, but the devs seem to think limited content that replaces old content is the way to do it.

Remaking FFXIV was a massive risk...
