FFXIV Cinematic Intro Fan Sound Redesign

Nice effort.

However, I couldn't get over the fact that the sound was very low quality and actually sounded monaural.

There weren't nearly enough spell/ability sound effects. Very little impact effects.

The music wasn't very Final Fantasy.

Most of the voice overs sounded awkward.

Sorry to be so critical, but I'm afraid I like the original better. Keep working at it!

You mentioned that you like the original better, I don't blame you - so do I. I didn't create this in an attempt to outdo SE, as I am a fan of their work personally. I created this piece to have fun, get some practice in and showcase my work (and also get some much needed feedback as to where I can improve).
Similarly, the music is my own and was not intended to copy the Final Fantasy style (although it provided me with a heavy influence, for sure).
I will be taking another pass at the mix eventually, and one of my goals is to improve the stereo mixing, so thank you for pointing that out.

I think the part with the rog jumping on the ice he should have had little high sound and when he hit the mob being a loud yell like a war cry "Ahhhh" or something like that. Beside that i think it was pretty good and i like this version better then the one SE release. I do agree with the other the music somewhat did not fit but it was still great.

When I take my second pass at the mix, I will most likely record a new scream for the Roegadyn, add an additional layer to the Marlboro's voice and change the initial "falling" grunt from the Hyur, among many other things.

Can't say I was a big fan of that. The music just felt... boring and repetitive. Like background music during a random encounter in-game. It wasn't dynamic or involved enough for a cinematic.

But the actual sound effects were pretty on-mark. It's clear that is where your skill lies.

This is why I prefer no voice acting in all games. I like the way XIV is now with minimal voice acting.

I think part of what you're hearing is the fact that the song was written as an in-game battle song for a different (indie) game originally.
http://LuckyLionStudios.com - this is my music studio. I have 45 original songs in the "royalty-free library" and this video uses one of them ("Gale Blade"). Obviously it's not ideal in the sense that I didn't originally write the music with this video in mind, but it's a good chance to show independent game developers what my music can do for their game.
And while I appreciate your opinion, I am generally much more known for my composition skills than my sound design.
