Just what is Fred with?

Just reading a little bit of story in a quest and I can't help but think "Lolorito" is something similar to when my mates at work would call Newcastle Football Club "Lolcastle" back when they changed managers every month and inevitably went down. Whenever I read "Lol" now on, I'm going to think of Lolorito. There are a bunch of amusing NPC names around Eorzea - which are the ones you've liked and disliked the most?

I have to say, for the one that inspired the title of this thread, the name actually really annoys me as I always feel that it's not a name - it's an incomplete sentence!

I hate almost all of them because of how SE names them.

They just smash their face against the keyboard and it turns out an NPC name, then capitalize the first letter and throw in a stupid apostrophe somewhere. Try it.

First off, I am so upset that actually works lol.

As far as NPCs that made me lol, in north Gridania there is a dark-skinned man named "Littlejohn" who sells vegetables I think. A far cry from making bad music I must say. :P (Inb4 flamed)

No, seriously, most names sound nice, but are waaaay too hard to remember.
I like Y'shtola(1), Papalymo(2) and Yda(3) though, because their names are beautiful(1), funny(2) or short and easy to remember(3)

Catgirls have apostrophes and Elves have French-ish names (-ioux, -eaux, etc). Humans kinda go all over the places and Lalafells love repeating syllables.

It's a silly thing SE does. I swear some of these names scream, "I banged on the keyboard cause I was out of ideas" while others whisper "My... my name is Taylor..."

None of the characters now are memorable except Cid, Thancred, Yshtola, and the Papsmear NPC from Grid... Paplymno? Anyway his name is still difficult to spell.

Its not that I am lazy, but these names aren't even names. Compare these names to other MEMORABLE Final Fantasy characters and notice the difference.

Please ... just name the NPCs something a bit more normal.

I'm not entirely sure I agree. I think the only reason we remember such names is because we are involved with them more than once or twice. From XI: Joachrim and Horst aren't common normal names either but we remember them because we have to talk them every bloody time we want to do anything in Abyssea. All those "notable" names you mentioned from XIV also happen to be NPCs players have a lot of interaction with.

Its just like player names, even if they have the most ridiculous name; after you have to type /tell <ridiculous name> several times, you'll learn to spell it and remember it :P
