Currently I've got not much emphasis on running through the dungeons until the proper fixes are made. It doesn't "feel" right to enter as an ARC where different arrows and maybe bows make no huge difference. And not even the Stats on the gear really makes a huge difference. I could be wrong though.

I should probably log on, try it and see if my passive skills are still drawing instantly hate :3

Right there with ya Bethor. I think it's getting there but FFXI was mine and many other peoples first MMO, and that feeling of awe will unfortunately probably never come back. That said, I had a great time playing another MMO and felt something similar.

It might just never happen here. Not because the game won't have that feel but rather because we are playing it in the state it is now. I'd say, you are more likely to get that feeling if and when the PS3 version launches and by starting fresh. Or maybe, just maybe when we get our first expansion. Till then it's a bit mundane but I still have hope.

To me, that "feeling of awe" was largely due to the richness of the world in which we ran around in. Although SE needs to finish the reconfiguration they've started, the next big task that needs to be done is recreating the map by eliminating the cookie-cutter zones and adding more diversity. I like the contiguous zones and not having to have the screen redrawn between areas, but I miss the uniqueness and challenge of zones like Yuhtunga/Yhoator Jungle or the snow-swept plains of Xarcabard, or even an enclosed zone like Boyahda Tree. With the current system, most of the zones feel like a "maze" for a 5-year old, but are otherwise annoying to navigate and very monotonous. "Rooms" or "open areas" in some zones or dungeons are usually the same size and look nearly identical. Running around in the game feels more like running around suburbia, with its cookie-cutter houses and street layouts than it does through some exciting, realistic world.

But I digress... This has been a hot topic on other posts, and people have gotten their hopes up for a redesign of zones like The Black Shroud through some sort of in-game cataclysm. Honestly, I don't think SE is planning this, but we can always hope. Anyway, sorry for the off-topic post.

hmm maybe you could get away with some thaums for healing, but in that role i would say 1 con is worth about two thaum, so youd need 3 to 4 thm to handle the 2 con.

archer is just a DD, it isnt required, but its got the easiest job dodging aoe, and a little bit more dmg (before, now maybe not, need new parses but probably still is)
Odd. . . I was just tanking on my PGL the other day. You sure GLA is required?

Archers take damage every time we shoot an arrow, it hurts in my Gil Sack! and we also repair our bows so yeah archers do more damage cause we have a gil sink.

As stated multiple times in this tread this boss can be beat with any setup. The problem is that people don't want to do it with any setup, they want whats easiest. This causes the community to go with a set value of classes. THIS IS NOT THE CLASSES FAULT.
Actually, it is very much the classes' fault. Because not all classes are (firstly) equally distributed amongst the roles. Secondly, melee-unfriendlyness means that you're going to prefer having ranged DPS in group if you can get away with it when resources become "rare" and MP becomes "precious". That alone is why certain set ups dominated in FFXI while others were LOL'd to death. History is repeating itself and it shocks me to see some people welcome it like it was a good thing in XI (when in reality it seriously hampered potential fun in-game).

Between certain classes being useless XI and my being "spoiled" by WoW's ability to create encounters that are interesting and can be cleared with ANY balanced raid comp with roughly the same difficulty (instead of comp A being exponentially more difficult than comp B), I expect SE to step up and meet that standard. Sacrificing how you want to play to see content is an old and time-sinky design model, and should go away to never return.
Please don't go crying wolf on other classes because your upset that you feel left out. It fosters bad outcomes for the whole community.
If they didn't design things that heavily favored one set up over another and had reasonably changed things for the healers, we wouldn't be having this thread at all.

PS: My distrust in Matsui seems to be well-founded, unless all this takes a sudden one-eighty, which I somehow doubt if FFXI is any indication.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

I agree to this thread !
its suck enough where I was running around finding something to do then someone shouted "leve-link pt" I asked "can I join? ^^" they ask me "do you have leves?" I said "sorry just finished all mine" after that I've never heard a word from them again...
arent FF XIV suppose to make friendly enviroment for players !? isnt the purpose of not having PK is for players to have friends and not kick each other ass?
    and now this !?
I just told my girlfriend how fun this game is and she was gonna come and play with me
if this is the direction this game is going then I'd better look for another game to play with my girl friend...
Sorry "Final Fantasy" Sorry "Square Enix" I always trusted you and had faith in you no matter what other people said I was always defended you but this is where we must part way...(is what'd say if this the future of my beloved final fantasy is !)
but I still have "faith" !! so please ! reconsider !!

k, nothing is required, its just highly reccomended. I mean i could tank things on my monk back in ffxi days, its just most people wouldnt let me because it made their jobs a lot harder.

I think yall guys get caught up in the hype of i am awesome, and miss the point. Its easiest to succeed with certain setups, once people know that, they start to try to make the setups. I see you have a lot of pride in your ability to do something on pug, but most people will simply go, thats nice, but why would i do that if its not easier, and a higher chance of success.

sure if you got some balls to the walls crews, or all the glas have died, people may tell you to tank the whole dungeon on your pug, but your still a 2nd string player.

Wow you are so incredibly wrong it is insulting.

GLA does not equate to Ninja or Paladin from XI in how necessary it is for any fight currently in game
Pugilist and MRD do not equate to Monk and Warrior from XI in terms of their tanking ability. At least currently they are pretty much on par with GLA, and better in terms of enmity generation while just slightly worse in terms of survivability.

    Second string player... please.
