Just say "hi" and you'll be in the running :3 My friends and I have started running roulettes together as a group, and a good chunk of the time we'll have to DF that 4th spot. That person could be guaranteed 3 commendations, but if they say absolutely nothing, they do not get my vote. I require so little to be happy....just give me my "Hello!" dammit. ._.

As someone else said, it's just basic courtesy. We're playing with live people, not NPCs. While I'd love to always be grouped with fun, chatty people, that rarely happens and so I'll settle for a basic greeting.

As someone who is new playing a tank mainly, a lot of times the healer ends up with a commendation from healing through an impatient DPS pulling mobs before we have even cleared the pack we are currently fighting! Is this normal? As a tank coming from other games this drives me batty, and they usually don't say a word, the just keep pulling stuff even after politely asking them not to!

When the DPS players do well, one of them gets a commendation sometimes.

If anybody isn't level-synced in a low level dungeon and they did a good job, they'll get my commendation.

Otherwise, I just give it to the person who did the best by the whole team. I'll weight it towards DPS a bit more though, since it's harder for me (as a healer) to tell just how well they did.

Entirely normal with the mindset of players here. It's never surprising that a new tank tends to lose hate because of zealous DPS. Just let them know you're new beforehand, and if they go super sand legend and pull mobs and die, let them. They need to learn a lesson with new tanks.

Priority for standard 4 man stuff:
1- the healer that keeps everyone alive while also contributing to DPS
2- the tank of roughly equivalent gear that I don't have to hold back for
3- the other DPS if it seems like we're plowing through the place

I typically don't commend in 8 man stuff, I don't keep track of what everyone's doing and I'd rather not accidentally reward poor play or behavior. That said I have occasionally tossed them to people who've explained the fights in a non-dickish way or who seemed the key player in an amazing recovery after the rest of the group failed hard.

    Automatic commendation rejection:
    Being a massive d-bag
Healers idling the entire instance while tank sits at 90% or more then complains about how long this is taking or how bored they are
Repeatedly stomped on by every telegraph
Limit Break Guy (usually a tank for some reason, uses LB as soon as it's up regardless of what's going on)
Need rolling things that aren't upgrades (I accept that you can, but I don't respect it)
    Non-tank pulling repeatedly
    "GO GO GO"
    "Please commend"
    Random Buttons Guy (example BLM "rotation": Fire 1, Fire 3, Fire 2, Blizzard 2, Blizzard 3, Fire 1, Scathe, ????, ????, ???!!)
    Probably more

I've gotten into the habit of rewarding DPS more often, unless the healer or tank are just that much better (not just in performance) than everyone else. Having played all 3 roles, and experienced the "glorious" random players that DF can often give us, you start to notice that finding a good DPS is actually pretty damn rare. Again, it's not so much in role performance (i.e. doing top damage), but also in how they handle themselves as part of the group. Team player mentality is rare.

    Tanks:
Chain pull really well or just pull everything without losing aggro on the first flare. I hate wasting my stacks
    Scholar:
    Cleric stance entire dungeon
White Mage: you better be holying a lot for taking away my piety

I always queue exp roulette with the same person as we work on the daily alexandrite so never have to never have to worry about dps, just want to be in and out fast

If the healer was throwing some damage and keeping me up without drama it's nearly always them. Its still usually the healer unless they were dropping the ball or a DPS really stood out.
I try to give one every run, I'll find something that wasn't bad in all but the worst runs.

    People that never get commendations:
Gaming the ilevel requirement in DF - like Bards in Sipahi or Peltast left-side stuff! I never even get the chance to commend if it's particularly egregious. Either they leave or I do. I've seen assholes with basically everything but the weapon wrong. Nope.
DPS that pull extra mobs ahead of me or that are particularly dickish voicing their impatience (Yes, we can speed up sometimes, so ask...sometimes the other DPS is a strength bard and that'll just make it worse).
DPS that die from standing in multiple red geometry.
People that lag all over the place and cause wipes.

I just go with tank <--> healer and DPS <--> DPS, unless the person I would have auto-commended was really, really stupid. I don't bother using them as a milkbone.

Personally I like to commend based on any of or a combination of the following:

    - Attitude (bad ones get you a big ol' goose-egg!)
    - Communcation (social, or otherwise, anything to make repeat content more enjoyable)
    - Performance (if you clearly excel at your role, I'll commend)
    - Assistance (if you make a suggestion to another player who appears to be struggling, and do so in a constructive and polite manner, gj!)

I don't like when players assign commendations based on class because the DPS always get the short end of the stick. I've played only as a DPS in the DF since commendations were released and I have like... 120 total lol, people just hate on DPS for some reason, especially BLMs. I guess people just think we all sit in the back and do nothing, and all those fireworks are just set off by default :S

For the record, I always say hello, say gj and ty when we win, and also if someone needs help/explanation, I'm happy to do it if I understand their role in the duty well enough. That seems more like common courtesy to me more than something to do for a commendation lol
