Discussion and theory on Derplander and his party

Going back to the trailer I;m a it fascinated by these characters/PC Surrogates but we know less about them than we do about Isgard, Shiva and the Syndicate. They are mysterious entites and mystery breeds speculations and a headcanons (and if popular enough, fanon). Note that I will be using names from this picture, but as I doubt its canocity (It kinda looks shopped, and I don't think SE or any other company would risk naming a character "Derp" anything after Hasbro's MLP edit fiasco) I will also be applying some different names as well

Now then my headcanons will also be spoilered as to avoid taking over the thread (This is about personal theories in general, not just my own).

• Robert Smith (Bob Derplander): Huyr Midlander (I think)
  • Robert I see as the Everyman and sometimes Idiot Hero , owing to that, he at times would remind you of Leeroy Jenkins as a Warrior. Despite that he acts as he leader of the group as well as Part of the heart (reasons being that parties tend to go down without Tanks) However he seems to have a higher level of intelligence and cunning then you'd normal expect, leading people to doubt if he's really as stupid as he appears.
• Abarahct (Steve Wolf): Sea Wolf Roegadyn
  • Abarahct is seen a Lancer type character, as well as The Big Guy. A Gentle Giant, Abarahct dislikes fighting, but he wanted to defend those he cared about, He went to Ul'dah to train in the art of sword and shield because he idolized the noble and holy Paladins. He and Robert butt heads a lot being Vitriolic Best Buds, A result from their first meeting in an alehouse with one thing leading to another (comparisons and an Almaj'aa were involved).
• Kokoro Koro (Desert Dune): Plainsfolk Lalafell
  • A Cheerful Child with a Team Mom slant, Kokoro serves as The Heart of their team (along with Robert to a lesser extent). Trained in the art of White Magic, she aids her allies by tending to their wounds. Sees Abarahct as a bit of a role model.
• Rachelle Dusk (Pat Dusker) Elezen (Not sure what type though)
  • An Elezen that traveled abroad to master Black Magic to aid Ishgard against the Dragons. As a result she is cunning, but also Aloof and distance, also in contrast to Kokoro and Abarahct, she loves the thrill of battle and adventure, sometimes too much.
• C'tyara Ghuh (Crystal Sun): Miqo'te (Betting on Seeker)
  • A Miqo'te with a playful and quirky side. She sought out the ways of the Bard, however she is more of a Robin Hood yep thief, she has personal greed issues, in fact if given the right price, she'd probably sell her parents for gil, though no one knows if she said in jest or if she really meant it.

As for how they met: Well from the trailers Robert and C'tyara met first, along with a male elezen. They were dong a Levequest with a malboro as the mark, however Robert got lost and wound up in an Alehouse, there he met Abarahct, the two had a drink when some assholes belittled Abarahct for perceived wimpiness. From there the Amalj'aa attacked the place, and out green Robert tried to defend the bar alone, but to no avail, he was knocked out. The beastmen put him near their other prisoners, including an unconscious Lalafell girl and it looked like they were heading to their Tempering grounds.


From there, C'tyara and the unknown male Elezen met up at the bar, looking for Robert. The bullies from before, now reduced to sniveling wimps in a twist of karma told of the Amalj'aa attack and the prisoners. The two decided to rescue them with Abarahct offering to help distract the Amalj'aa.


They caught up the beastmen in Zar'hak looking to make more tempered from a nearby caravan. Menawhile, Robert and the Lalafell girl, Kokoro tried looking for a means of escape (as well as cheering up and claiming down the other prisoners). when Abarahct attacked the kidnappers, the unknown Elezen and C'tyara took a key and opened the cages, however the beastmen realized the escaped and tried to capture them all.


The Elezen dude took a hit from a Thamaturge's fire, defending his party from the blast. But things looked hopeless as the Amalj'aa knew of the attempted escape. The able bodies warriors tried to defend themselves but were for outnumbered and outmatched...


Until a burst of flame erupted from the sky and hit several of the beastmen and a female elezen came forth and created an ice wall between them and the captives, giving them enough time to escape (and for Kokoro to tend to the other Elezen's wounds)


Much later Robert thanks C'tyara and their Elezen comrade for saving them, and then gets chastised for getting lost. Afterwards, Kokoro, Abarahct and the female Elezen named Rachelle joined their party and made their way to the leve's location.


Some time later, the male elezen left the party for unknown reasons

So what are your headcanons and theories about these characters?

I didn't see any names though. I don't see anything that josses my theory yet (though the time-frames might need a little tweaking)

You do realize that Derplander is a name given to him by the community, none of them have been officially named by SE I don't think.

I know. Hence the alternate names. I mean to say that the I don't think the fanon names would be canonized lest Square get a buch of hate mail from soccer moms and social justice warriors.

Derplander and co never were officially named because of the fact they're analogous to the player's own character. Hence because we can name our characters whatever we like, he and his party are basically just nameless generics, much like the original characters from FFI.

Having said that, in the Waning of the Sixth Sun story-recap DVD that came with the Collector's Edition, the character who appears during the in-game 1.0 cutscenes (who is made up to look like Derplander), has been given the apparent name of 'Meteor'. Why is never explained, but it's possible it's just an internal nickname the development team gave him and not what is meant to be his real name. So for now 'Derplander' will stick.

Yes, the PC in the cutscenes is given the placeholder name "Meteor Survivor" and looks like a red-headed Derplander.

Your theory isn't even a theory, though. It's thinly veiled fanfiction, because most of that has no evidence to even draw from.
