    Satellite connection breaks fishing

As of a couple of months ago, I play on a satellite connection. Which means I have a 1,700ms ping. I obviously don't expect too much with that much of a latency, but in general, ffxiv handles it pretty well. Except for fishing. Here is the only two scenarios that ever happen when I fish:

    80% of the time
    You feel a nibble/bite.
    > jig
You have hooked something but can't reel it in.
    > try again
    The fish got away.

    20% of the time
    You feel a nibble/bite.
    > jig
    You have caught xxx.

If I don't catch it on the very first jig, I lose my catch 100% of the time. 100%, no exaggeration. I never, ever get "The fish is taking line", "The fish is taking a great deal of line", "You have caught xxx", "You lost what felt like xxx", or "The fish is tired but you can not reel it in". I get bites just fine, but I haven't seen any of those messages on this connection in months. I have exhausted every possibility trying to fix this -- gear, stats, waiting (for several weeks) for any possible fatigue to wear off, bait, trying lower grade spots, whatever. The only difference between when I could fish fine, and now, is my connection. My only conclusion is that there is something about having a 1800ms ping that breaks fishing.

You've exhausted every possibility except calling your ISP.

If I could have some other broadband besides satellite, I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the only things available in my area are dial-up, satellite, and mobile wireless. Pick your poison.

I believe the problem lies with the forums as it's still in beta and not perfect yet, I can say for one thing your question/issue is 1 of 2; 1) about "FISHING" and 2) about "Connection Issues" so split the part about FISHING and focus on the part about CONNECTION/Breaks. Then repost it in the * Technical Support, I believe the Technical Team of SE has stated they are dealing with many issues, and I've seen improvement in-game as it's gotten smoother, however many issues are still present ... they've got a long tough road ahead of them indeed .

I can second that fishing with lag is incredibly frustrating. I'm thinking it has to do with the time between jigs (to prevent bots?). You will have a hard time catching anything even with ~400 ms.

Not that "change yours ISP!" is all that helpful, but with those options, I'd choose dialup. For gaming, at least, you only need high-speed rates for downloading updates. For actual gameplay, if the actual data rate breaks 28.8 kbps it's a lot.

Your commands in the game are making a 50,000 mile round-trip. There's nothing you can do about the laws of physics.
