Soldiery Weapons: What's your opinion?

Thank you Traek, this is what I was looking for. I have not started the SCoB, however I know someone that may be looking for me to join their group as white mage (which is my highest and main), so I don't necessarily need accuracy on BlM and BRD. But, I do appreciate the feedback.

I was unsure of the BLM weapon, but definitely thought the SMN Book of Spades looks pretty awesome.

One other thing, that I should consider (but we don't know yet) is how the Ramuh weapons will look. I thought they stated those will also be i100. So, maybe I can get one or two Soldiery weapons for my alts and go for some Ramuh weapons as well.

Np, just keep in mind it is 3 weeks soldiery investment. If you are joining as WHM I'd go for whatever you enjoy most as a secondary and focus your Soldiery purchases there. I got all 50s, so I know the struggle!

Other things to consider. For i100, Tidal Bow is pretty amazing, same with the Tidal BLM Staff (no accuracy). So if you are trying to attain things and be more rounded, you could get Book of Spades for our SMN, and shoot for Mirror for BRD, just as an example.

No idea on Ramuh weapons. Rumor is i100 yes, but I try not to make decisions off rumor. I'm sure most will be cool looking. That is what glamour is for though!

it worth for all class, unless you have enough time to spend farming Novas, (which I don't have) or don't have T9 on farm.
I using Burtgang (PLD sword) atm and really like it so far, until I got my HA weapon.

I also I should mention that I'm goining for CRIT/Det Build not parry ;P.

I can speak only for BLM. The acc freedom you get is great and if you are lucky enough to get your build done, asaid for novus and high allagan you get the best build. Still few dps difference between the secondary stats and if you drop all acc pieces you may don't need that acc

If you don't want to farm for Novus, the ilvl110 soldiery weapon will trump all other lower ilvl weapons just because of the increase in weapon damage.

WHM has best stat spread outside of the bs Novus. SCH on the other hand...trash!

When it comes to weapons, the truth is that you all really, really need to stop worrying about secondary stats.

The real question you should be asking is "Will this weapon increase my Weapon Damage?"

If the answer is yes and you have the opportunity to acquire this weapon, get it.

If you have an i90 weapon, you want the i100 one. If you have a i95 weapon, you want the i100 one. Secondary stats only matter on sidegrades(ie. WD is equal), because Weapon Damage trumps all other stats for all classes. It trumps all other stats so much that, according to currently accepted weights, the secondaries account for less than 3% of the damage(or heal potency, in the case of healers) of a weapon and often less than 2%.

I'll go over what is perhaps the most egregious example of refusal to upgrade because of secondaries: Scholars and the i95 Allagan Book.

39 Crit Rate is beautiful, isn't it? Except that, unless you're doing nothing but spamming Adloquium all day(which you shouldn't do!), that 39 Crit provides a benefit to your healing approximately equal to 7.9 Mind. A single point of Weapon Damage provides a benefit approximately equal to 8.7 Mind. Going from i95 to i100 adds two Weapon Damage. You can take that Crit, dump it all into Accuracy, and you'll still have a far superior weapon.

With the Allagan Book, you're throwing out subpar heals for a 1% extra chance to have a heal(or shield) that actually means something. Upgrade to that i100 book and not only will all of your heals matter, your 1% reduced Crit Rate will be outweighed by larger crits that will make your tanks smile all happy.

So, the rules of thumb for weapon upgrades.

1. Secondaries provide so little benefit to the weapon slot that they might as well not exist. It is therefore the best place to place Accuracy, Parry, and Piety.
2. If it's an iLvl upgrade, you want it. End of story. Regardless of the secondaries, adding even 1 Weapon Damage is an overall upgrade.

So, the long story short is that if you don't have an i100 weapon, the Soldiery Weapon is always a good option. If you already have an i100 weapon, consider it if you like the secondaries better. If the Soldiery Weapon takes your accuracy below cap, make up for it with armor and get it anyway. It's still an overall upgrade.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but they are just asking which weapon would be best for when they eventually get a Tome, not whether they should get a Tome weapon instead of Animus, Novus etc.

I wouldn't get the BLM weapon if you have enough accuracy from gear, but you need a lot of SCoB i110 gear to get to that point.
