Nice. I think this is a better solution than in-game items.
As happy as I would be to receive any if I go, I do feel it's a tad unfair in some regards.
But on the other hand, it's quite nice to have an exclusive item that no-one else can get.
Yeah, I agree.
Ultimately, I am really going to go because my raid static are all pretty good friends IRL and not-IRL and we are all old enough to have fun in Vegas and meet each other. Most of us are taking some extra days off work to do more than just this fan fest.
But regarding the fan-fest, I also agree with getting something tangible over in-game items. Both are nice, but years down the road I probably won't be playing this game anymore, but will be able to glance at my shirt and reminisce upon the memories I made![]()

Pretty sure you can haul them up with ventures. There are some items that can be only obtained like this already, such as the gysal ring
Doubtful, it wouldn't make much sense to give limited exclusive items as a perk of going to the fan fest to everyone else. They didn't with XI and no one really complained since the items were stuff you'll forget you even have after a week. Just how things are, sometimes you can't have everythingSince there will be limited locations & limited availability for the fan fest events, do the developers plan to make the items given out at the fan fest available to other players at some point, or in some alternate way? I'd love to make it to the fan fest, but it's on the other side of the country, and as a result the cost to attend would be too high.
So if it's like XI, purchase a ticket, you'll get it. But we know how his goal for XIV is to be as different from XI as possible, so you may actually have to attend to get it. Everyone benefits from the info/expansion stuff that may or may not be there though, that's much more important.
For a sub. based MMO, the fact that there are items behind an IRL event with a massive paywall is so stupid. Like serious Square, what are you guys doing? How is this even a remotely good idea? Are these events THAT BAD that you need to incentive people to come?

Welcome to the modern MMO marketing department. Unless you follow them on Pinterest, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitch, YouTube, Twitter and go to events that will cost the average player several hundred dollars to attend, odds are you going to be excluded from getting in-game items. A few other companies are at least willing to sell "online only" tickets that get you the in-game items that the events give out.
Blizzard has gotten away with it at every single blizzcon, and they give things like mounts and pets there.
And that is only one event, at least Square is giving 3 opportunities.

Expect to see item codes ("on a postcard") on Ebay for $250+
I believe that SE did at one point offer all FFXI users the ability to purchase a moogle hat that was given out at the first JP fanfest for like $10. It was a very limited window for the purchase or something.

Vanity items for vain people, so who cares if they never become available to the general populace.
That said, I'm planning on going.
