This is the new NPC added by SE in the latest update in Gridania, and he takes deaspected crystals in exchange for crystal shards and a 'Peregrine Helm'. I was just wondering if anyone had managed to glean any interesting information from him?

I traded for some fire shards and he mentioned that the Amaljaa were trying to work out what was causing the deaspected crystals too. I imagine trading for different elements makes him talk about that particular element's beastmen/primal (He mentioned ifrit in mine) and I'm curious to know what he says if you get the helm in particular.

I did indeed, I'm not really sure how it factors in but having not played a lot I did log in to see the new stuff. There's only so much a person's achievements will tell you.

I'd have traded for a helm but, as he said, I don't play much anymore so I didn't have many to trade.

I traded 30 for a helm immediately (shards are useless to me) and he didn't really say much of interest. Though I may consider trading more for each type of shard just to hear the flavour text you speak of.

Ah that's cool. Thanks for letting me know! I'll be sure to bump it up if i get round to trying again and getting anything else new.

I bought a Peregrine helm. He said this:

Most curious... It seems the crystals share some bond with the moon. Yeees, the lunar phases seem to influence the flavor-err, the rate at which the crystals lose their aspect.
I could be wrong, but I have a feeling the greatest loss of flav-errr, power occurs on cloudless evenings when the moon is clearly visible. Ahhh, but I must know the truth... Bring me more.

Thanks a lot for posting that, someone else commented a while back they'd seen an NPC mention one of the moons was steadily getting bigger.. I never found out whether it was true or not but I do find that kind of stuff really interesting!
