    Pld bonus points.

So I just started pld recently. And I'm wondering what should I put my points into? Reading the skills, it seems like str and dex could be usefull. But via is hp and tanks need that. So? Should I split it up? Or just go all into one of them?

Hi, most PLD put it full VIT. Some do a STR PLD along the way and when level 50 change to all VIT (with an item bought at the Grand Company, the Keeper's Hymn or something like that.) Survival is most important (=VIT), but at low levels STR helps to get and keep enmity.

But str and dex increase shield block rate and the amount you you block
    http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Attributes

Are they not as usefull as vit if pointed enough?
High block rate, blocking a lot of things? Or high amount of damaged blocked? Paired with a good shield?

Or is the amount of hp gained per point just become overwhelming enough to not have a use for points that could boost block rates and/or damage blocked?

You will not notice the effect of 30 STR or 30 DEX on your shield blocks. You'd only pick 30 STR for DPS applications as offtank, which is not popular for PLD.

If your using pld to tank end game content then put all your points into VIT. If your only playing pld for fun (basically anything less than coil 2). Then go all str.

    30 vit = 450 LP

40str = 1% more blocked and Parryíed damage (so 23% becommes 24%) and a bit more damage

40 det = 1% more Block and Parry rate

It depends where you are right now at the beginning of lvl 50 vit is more importnat, but as you may gues the bigger your lp pool becomes 450 extra lp make less and less difference. At the same time 1% les Dmg per Block and Parry or 1% more Block and Parry Chance becommes better and better the more dmg your opoonents make.

I'm at an ilvl of 96 rigth now and will probably swich from vit to str pretty soon.

It also depends on playing war or Paladin. A Paladin gets more from Str and Det because ist block and Parry for him. A Warrior can only Parry and having a high livepool might be more important for him.

I would argue that the opposite is more likely true. Warriors already have an astonishing HP pool due to Defiance. As a warrior your goal should be to get approximately 9k HP with defiance on, and put the rest into str. I'm not sure of the HP threshold for paladin but I'm guessing it's somewhere around 7.5k. You need enough HP to withstand the strongest hit in the game and not get OHKO after mitigation. Anything extra after that isn't really necessary and better itemized elsewhere.

I agree with you here Paladin Need somthing above 7,3 for turn 9 (wasn't there yet but that seems to be needed by other players experience). What I meant with Paladin having a bigger Bonus because of str and dex Bonus for Block and parry is because the Bonus is doupled (1% for Parry and Block instead of just for parry). While Warrior may Profit more from extra lp because of Defiance (and maybe other skills? my warrior is not 50 yet so I'm not sure about all of their skills), on the other Hand str also increases their selfheal because of additional attack power (again I'm not sure how usefull that would be for mine is not 50). All of my thoughts about str and /or dex only apply after Meeting the necessary threshold of course.
