Thread: Are toxic players good for FFXIV?

It's these very players, Jones went on to say, that are going to push Unchained forward and keep it alive.

"They're not going to go away," Jones said about toxic players. "And honestly, I don't think you want them to. You need those people there. They're driving the game. They're giving it longevity. They're giving it passion. And when they find something about your game that they love, they defend it to the death. Those are the same people that can go to bat for you."

It's an interesting theory but it just isn't right, at all. Those players are an incredibly small fraction of the population, and when that fraction alienates a big portion of the paying customer base, scaring them away; well that's just bad business. You can be a good player, enjoy the game, and stay committed to it without insulting anyone. It's actually pretty easy.

idk whats worse, toxic players or people who wine when they don't get their way. Either or both can be ignored.

My thought exactly. I think "toxic" is a overused word just like "troll" is.

There's a distinction between "toxic" and "passionate", though that distinction is a thin line at times.

There's also a distinction between players who are committed and players who are downright abusive. The former may want to complete content and will facilitate its completion in positive ways, the latter is just an ass hat.

I don't think that ANY game's success is based on a high population of ass hats.

Eh... the word "toxic" pretty much means anyone doing anything you personally don't agree with now. The difference between "troll" and "toxic" is that when someone dubs another person toxic they tend to go over-the-top and also dub the entire community toxic. Whereas when they dub a person a troll only that person suffers the tag for the time being.
