The problem with a lockout per job is that lots of the jobs play similar enough so you would just level a complementary class (WHM -> SCH, PLD -> WAR) and the only difference would be you would clear the content twice with a static group and gear your main that much faster.

As for jumping in and helping others. There are always others able to help out if you can't and you can still give them pointers (which I feel is better in the long run)
