Bingo, nailed it.The problem with a lockout per job is that lots of the jobs play similar enough so you would just level a complementary class (WHM -> SCH, PLD -> WAR) and the only difference would be you would clear the content twice with a static group and gear your main that much faster.
As for jumping in and helping others. There are always others able to help out if you can't and you can still give them pointers (which I feel is better in the long run)
Make an alt if you want to continue to do multiple 2nd coil runs in the same week.
Again, counter productive to the armoury system. As for the shared gear. Its time to stop being lazy and make unique pieces for each job. Or just stick to the current system where people only log in once a week...that's cool to I guess.
It has nothing to do with gear being shared. If your in a static that has T6-8 on farm and are pushing T9 with your system of being able to do T6-8 how often you have jobs for you will still be gearing based on your main job till everyone has BiS. Need/Greed doesn't really come into it for a static it doesn't matter if I go in as a BLM if my main in the static is WHM I'll be rolling on healing gear and the other healer would either greed against me or pass if they had it. My group is currently just getting into T8 but if the system was set up the way you suggest we would just farm T6 and T7 since we all have another job we can come as. We would be gearing up based on our "Main" jobs through since it would help us clear T8 faster.
SE has decided that they want each person to have a shot at 8 HA, 1 T9 weapon, 1 UAT, 2 oils, 2 sands a week (Assuming perfect drops and your the only one looting) and I personally think that is fine since it is across the board.
So under the current system a static would get a max of 14 pieces of gear a week. With your system a static could get 126 (14*9) pieces of gear a week. This wouldn't help any other people since it would just be the static gearing alts since they have every job at 50. Given that there are only 13 slots per char you just made it so they would only be running coil for a few weeks. And then never logging in according to your logic.
Assuming you have every turn on farm status with each combo of jobs. Your talking about ~1 hour a week (lockout per char) to ~9 hrs a week (per job). So assuming 3 hours a night of play time which is very little your system would get people from "logging in once a week" to logging in 3 times a week.
Its no different than people making alts in other MMO's and running the content. Hell in swtor you had legacy gear you could move between alts. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is the game is forcing you to stick to one job and is being completely counter productive to its own system. If they only wanted you to do content on one job then they should remove the armoury system and cross class abilities and just have you make a new toon for each job you play because as far as end game is concerned with the way lockouts are designed right now, the armoury system is pointless.
And this goes for the daily roulettes as well.
No it doesn't defeat the armoury system. Just because you can't do 1 thing as all your jobs in a week doesn't mean it is a bad system.
As for the roulettes you can run those as often as you want. You just only get the bonus once a day since it is a bonus. (and really you can cap soldiery fairly easy).
I suppose next your going to come and say that the fact there is a weekly cap on soldiery is ruining the armoury system too? Since you can't just get soldiery gear for all you jobs at the same time.
Go play WoW if you just want things handed to you Last I heard they were just giving away 90s in that game.
I don't think he's saying he wants anything handed to him. In fact, it sounds to me like he just wants to be able to play the game and not get locked out of content. There are many people out there who feel the same way. There really isn't much to do at end game as it is (when you are tired of farming brayflox and ex primals). This has been a problem since coil 1-5. It's not going away.
Lock outs from end game content are an old and tired mechanic. It's surprising that we are into the MMO genre for this long and still can't think outside of the box when it comes to end game gear and gating players from farming it. But devs have to be more creative when it comes to linear gear progression and keeping players playing the content long enough for them to put our more.
The idea was good to eliminate the need for players to roll alts when their main is geared out, by having one toon be able to switch jobs. But, you run into this problem with end game content and locking out the whole toon. I think many people would be happy if they could still run coil 6-9 on another job, even if they just got a little myth or soldiery, instead of loot; just like they did with Crystal Tower. You can run it as much as you want on whatever job you want, you're just restricted to 1 or 2 items per week or whatever.
More or less. I always laugh when people say I just want things handed to me...That has nothing to do with it. I just want to be able to do the content whenever I want. Its why I had so many alts in swtor.
With that said, I don't have anything against lockouts or caps on commendations/seals whatever you want to call them based on the game you're playing. I just feel the current design is too restrictive in a game with a system designed around a single toon being able to do everything.
I played SWTOR too, and had every advanced class to 50 on the imp and rep side. So when I was locked out of Hard Mode Dread Fortress and Palace (highest end game content at the time) on my Marauder, I could still help out guildies who wanted to run it, but I would just hop on my healer or whatever. So, I get where you are coming from. Believe me, everyone in my FC has complained about this from day one. It would suck because we would have like 20+ people on and we would have to leave people out of our Coil runs. Eventually, people quit the FC to form their own coil statics. There was so much tension going on in the FC because everyone wanted to play but we could only play once a week. So stupid. Most of us didn't even care about rolling on loot, we just wanted to help some other friends go in and play it. But you can't. You can only play it once a week on 1 job. Lame.

I think it has more to do with the developers want people doing other things than just Coil all day, every day. I guarantee you there would be a subset of players that given complete freedom to run whatever they want, whenever they want, they'll have completed all the current content and geared every class way before the next content cycle was due to come out. I think SE would much rather people have people logging in once a week (and still paying their subscription) than whoring out the content within a couple of months and unsubscribing until the next bump in progressive content comes out.
It's simply a business decision.
