I don't recall any MMO that allows that, but please enlighten me. WoW it doesnt work like that, at least not early MoP. Blizzard has a Blizzard Live ID that makes communicatiion possible, this is something that FFXIV doesnt have

I was actually referring to WoW and Blizzard Live ID. I haven't played WoW since 2006, but my friend who plays told me that you can use Live ID to queue for instances with cross-server friends. He may have been mistaken; he quit WoW a few months back and may have misremembered or misunderstood the feature.
Either way, it seems feasible to implement a feature like that, even if no one else has done it before. The Duty Finder already pairs people from different servers together, so you would just need a system that pairs 2-8 specific people together, instead of just moving down a list of people who are queued.
GW2, if my memory serves me right, allows you to have cross-server FL.
EDIT: On FFXIV, you have chars with similar names on different servers. Come to think of it, I wonder how that works when two people on different servers but similar names are queueing in DF at the same time. Even if the probablility of them ending up in the same dungeon is very low, the possibility has to have been accounted for, right?

This already happens if two players with the same name are in the same instance server (doesn't have to be dungeon). The result is that the player who joined later gets a number 2,3,4... added to their name.GW2, if my memory serves me right, allows you to have cross-server FL.

Yeah, GW2 allows cross-server friends, and you can also be invited as a "guest" to their server to play with them, with your current character. No need to level up an alt or anything. It's quite nice![]()
WOW lets you do anything you want on a cross server friends list except for current raids, however this is getting changed soon or already has, you even pop into the raid leaders realm and interact with players on that server to a degree and vice versa ^^. Theres even a PF in WOW that lets you find people even cross realm or sign up on its group finder that advertises cross realm and basically can do what you want, even questing.
Erm...WoW lets you friend people from other servers and lets you group up with them and run dungeons/pvp/etc...
Of course feature wise WoW tends to be 2-3 years ahead of everyone else...Which is a shame cuz I tend to find WoW really boring =/ Wish other companies would keep up with the features WoW comes out with.
In terms of server tech, no one can match blizzard right now, its not even funny, no one can really match them or catch up, they pretty much have the best in the business working on the servers.Erm...WoW lets you friend people from other servers and lets you group up with them and run dungeons/pvp/etc...
