I do have friends that play on other servers, and while I do have characters on the servers they play on, I still prefer to play my "main" on Leviathan. I also have more friends on Leviathan where-as I only know that one person on, say, Adamantoise, Excalibur, Behemoth and Balmung. Though I have offered to them that if they were to decide to reroll/transfer to Leviathan, then I would happily invite them to my FC.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.

This, a thousand times over. I've transferred servers and had to leave friends behind, would be nice to be able to keep in touch with them through a cross server fl of some sort.
The way I want to remember it from FFXI is that your friends list was account-based rather than character-based through PlayOnline, which was one thing I did like about POL.Of course there weren't any instanced events in XI, and I could be wrong in how I'm remembering this I haven't played XI in a number of years now. But I imagine that this sort of system could be made to work in XIV too. Not necessarily a POL-like program, just a cross-server/cross-data center friend list implemented straight into the game would be amazing. I'm not sure how complicated it would be to add to the game at this point, but I'm also not sure why it isn't already in place tbh. Also, having a way to queue up for things together would be awesome but it would only work if the two servers were in the same data center anyways.GW2, if my memory serves me right, allows you to have cross-server FL.
EDIT: On FFXIV, you have chars with similar names on different servers. Come to think of it, I wonder how that works when two people on different servers but similar names are queueing in DF at the same time. Even if the probablility of them ending up in the same dungeon is very low, the possibility has to have been accounted for, right?
It would be pretty funny to see two different characters on two different classes with the same name pop up in DF though. Even worse if they were both dps. xD

Personally, I'd be content with being able to send moogle mail to friends on other servers.

And this is, I think, why we don't have cross-server friends lists. The potential for RMT to abuse this is high. Hack an account/farm millions of gil, mail it to an RMT alt on another server. Makes it easy for them to keep their farming to a 'dump' server.
They could add a second level friendship that is SE account based. After you befriend someone you could get an extra popup if you wish to befriend via their account as well so that even if they move to a diff server you can still have them in the friends list and stuff that way.

All this RMT limitations nonsense really makes me wanting to do mean things. Like kicking puppies, shiving lalas, throwing someone of Highbridge.
When making a system with Letterboxes (with pommels) which seems like its taken from WoW, why not also include Postage and MoD function.
We can't do this and that because of RMT, tells in dungeons, talking to FC/LS within PVP, any form of trading in Dungeons, send letters to people outside of out Friendlist, add alts to out Friendlist.
COME ON
RMT put so much criminal energy into what they do, they simply don't CARE about those things.

Not having a cross-server FL has nothing to do with combating RMT, you would need to accept the friend request anyway. The problem is that stuff like that is not exactly easy to implement, especially now when dataservers are no longer directly connected to each other.
Put it this way. Allowing to queue up in DF with the chocobo up is very hard to implement, implementing a cross-server FL is even harder.

I'd love this. Even if it didn't have any of the functionality of wow's cross server friend list it would be nice to just speak to people I know who play elsewhere.
That said, the odds of this happening are below zero. SE is determined to keep us isolated. I'd hope for simply being able to use tells in dungeons before something like this.
Q20: Will we ever be able to send tells from within an instanced area?
A20: While the feature can be implemented, it’s currently masked. It’s currently masked because we would like to prevent players from harassing each other just because they know they would never party together in the future. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully as we move forward.

Agreed.
I created a thread on this in the UI Section (to create a new UI "Cross-Server Friends List") a while back:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...st-and-Parties
Hopefully something like this gets implemented in the future.
It WILL take a lot of work, to be sure, but it's worth it to increase the sense of Community and build friendships (and open up possible Cross-Server Friends Invite to Parties to Raid, etc.).![]()
