Beast tribe quests a waste of time?

I'm going to sound cheap here, but I felt like I completely wasted my time with beast tribe quests. I am finally "Trusted" by the Amalj'aa, and I walk up to the vendor and the only thing I care about (Drake Mount) is 120,000 gil? Seriously? I just spent weeks getting my ass handed to me and burned up in Southern Thanalan to still have to spend 120k gil to get something that can't fight by my side or protect me like a chokobo? It's just for looks. It's not faster, it can't get me to better places, I can't use it to torch enemies, it doesn't climb rock faces... Who in SE came up with that price scheme? I think I'm probably most ticked off, because I could have waited until I need EXP for my other jobs and it would have felt more satisfying to level up or something like that. Oh well, I guess I should remember that for my next beast tribe. I'll save it for the EXP.

I wonder if there's plans to make these mounts more useful than "Look what I did" trophies.

Like you said, they're trophies and gil sinks on top of that. People generally like mounts, at least well enough to drop 120k on them. You don't have to buy the mount or anything. You still get your "Brother/Sister of Ash" title.

Don't buy it, I believe Mininions are worthless yet the Mindflayer retainer was selling for 400-500k when it came out. Give that same attitude to mount.

Hey, Nutz, thanks. I FINALLY got a title! You don't get to see it when you're running about, but others can. I was told that one can view one's own title, but I have yet to find that place. I'm just glad that I got something out of it. I'm going to do the others too, but only when it's time to level up my PLD, MRD, BLM, SCH, DRG, MNK, and SMN. Yes, I feel like I accomplish more with the jobs. I still don't have much fun punching trees to get the wood. (South Park reference)

If you didn't enjoy seeing things from the perspective of a beastman tribe then you completely missed the point of the quests.

The gil you earned from doing the dailies to hit Trusted is 1/2 to 3/4ths of what it takes to buy the mount. If you don't want it that badly, don't buy it.

Your title can definitely can make your title visible to you - it's a setting in the Character Configuration menu (under 'Display Name Settings' specifically). I'm not sure of the exact setting though, as I'm not logged into the game at the moment to check - that info came from the 2.28 patch notes which wasn't very clear. But the main thing is you can definitely have your title visible to yourself.

If you're a collector of all the things, then 120k is easy to part with for a new mount.

If you're an odd duck like me, and don't like running dungeons but do like crafting, it's a nifty way to get some cheap crafting materials and Myth without going dungeon-crawling.
