    How do people honestly consider Coil a Raid? 10 minute encounters aren't Raids, they're just that...encounters. Coil is closer in content to what the game calls "Trials" than an actual raid. Maybe if all 5 turns of Coil 1 were combined into a single sprawling instance THAT could be called a Raid.

    If Yoshi thinks Coil is a Raid, fine that's his place to decide but in FF XI Dynamis was what a real Raid was like, none of this 8 man 10 minute cap boss fights stuff. CT is the closest thing we have to that except they'll never make CT a challenge since they don't believe 24 people can work together, zzzzzzz.

    I don't understand why people can't think of BCoB and SCoB as one continuous dungeon split up for the sake of convenience and nothing more. There are lobbies in between but you can do the entire thing without ever going back to the field(same thing as walking through a hall to a different wing after a boss fight) and from what I can tell this is done for a few reasons based on the design decisions in the game.



    1. All duties have a timer to prevent a ton of instances being open at once due to people being afk in dungeons for hours. Saving on server power and potentially reducing overall lag.

    2. Due to the weekly lockout even if you shoved them all in the same instance and gave it a long clear timer of like 4 hours or something(more than you'd need to clear it but a reasonable amount of time for learning) ALL loot would need to be dropped from the last boss, giving 0 sense of progression and 0 help from drops until you've cleared all the bosses to avoid rampant abuse of clearing some bosses and resetting.(no sol weps, no sands or oils; even if changed to some sort of system where you can only roll the first time you clear a boss that also just leads to different kinds of problems like people selling carry runs for the gear and so on, which Yoshi P. has specifically said they want to avoid from a developer standpoint)

    These 2 reasons seem to be pretty big in my book. A potential solution to this would be to save progress like the game already does with t6-t7 trash giving you a shortcut to where the boss is, but from where I stand that's exactly what the game is already doing it's just saving you the hassle of running down all the hallways to where the boss is.

    If "raids" involve like 25, 40, 70 people to do then please keep that out of this game. I know WoW reduced their raid sizes from 40 since no one wanted to go through the hassle of keeping those encounters together. I have a lot more fun with a tightknit group of 8 people that I can run encounters with. So keep "raid" content out of FFXIV since that seems to involve at least 24 people according to OP.

    So the limiting factor for you is that the Turns in Coil aren't interconnected by long stretches of annoying and pointless trash-filled hallways?

    Solution:

    Make a duty that requires 26 player charachters, 7 pets, and 5 chocobos. You are given 57.77 mins to complete this duty and have a total of 5 mini bosses to beat, each dropping only one item each and have loot lockouts(you win from said boss, you can't roll on their loot again), oh and at 53 mins the end boss goes INVINCIBLE. If you beat him before he goes invincible, he drops 9 items, 1 each to a speciffic job. If you do not beat him before god mode you have to run the instance over. If you do win and roll and win loot, then you get the lock for four days, unless you beat him on a Sunday in which point you have to wait six, coz yo azz should have been in church and not playing ffxi...oh wait FFXIV ARR.

    See problem solved.

    I never said raids should be grindy.

    I said that whether it is a raid or not is based solely upon whether or not the content, when introduced, requires more than one full group.

    Since Crystal Tower uses 3 Full Parties, it is a raid. Since Binding Coil only takes 1 Full Party, it is just as much a raid as Castrum and Praetorium and Garuda Hard Mode (two storyline group dungeons, and a group trial). Content is either raid or group, it cannot be both simultaneously - though you can have a group version of a raid event (or, if you prefer to come at it the other way, a raid version of a group event).

    Since Coil is not a raid, FF14:ARR has NO end-game raids, and it needs some.

    When you get hired on as part of the Dev team then you can claim what is accurately a Raid in ARR and what isn't. Until then, a Raid is whatever the Devs say a Raid is. Not sure why you keep arguing this ridiculous definition that you think fits EVERY MMO on the market when it obviously doesn't.
